hi all,

if any of the forum experts could please advise about the 2 weeks paid holiday for afterschool programs...

1) is it generally given during the school summer and winter vacations?
2) do you need to find a fill in teacher while you take vacation?
3) or do they generally prefer you to take your 2 weeks at the end of your contract when the new teacher arrives?

thanks for any answers

you made a similar thread about after school programs. why dont you just ask your employer?

edit: I see you are working at a hagwon, fair enough.

1) yes
2) no, because your employer decides your vacation
3) you take your one week summer/winter, and when your contract is up your manager will take care of the rest. its the same as a hagwon

yes , thanks for that,

can i ask, whats the most classes per week the afterschool program can force you to do per the contract? does it vary from program to program? im over my hagwan class hours so am looking for a lighter workload. Ive read many times afterschool programs have less classes per week, so im wondering if push comes to shove, how many classes max can you be required to do at an afterschool program

thanks for any answers

1. Yes, usually the week of christmas, and either the last week of July or first week of August
2. For the regular two weeks no. The kids are on vacation also. However, if you renew and get more vacation, in my case, you are responsible for finding a new teacher.
3. No, they decide.

It's in your contract. And if it isn't, have it stated in the contract. Yes it varies from program to program. Generally speaking it IS a lighter workload than a hagwon.

Regardless of "push comes to shove" you won't be teaching more classes than you're scheduled. If you get a grip of new students, they will be level tested, and put into your classes.

Sounds like you had a bad experience with your hagwon so your paranoia is leaking over to after school programs. Not the case. You workload WILL be lighter. Chillout.

Right now my public school is on vacation, but I still have to work. So I work mornings during the vacation, for the same amount of time. So instead of the usual 1-6 schedule it gets moved to 930-230.
