This is a two part question:

A: Does anyone play with skill toys in Seoul? Poi, hoops, contact juggling, juggling, staves, any of that fun stuff?

B: Does anyone know what the laws regarding fire are in Seoul? i.e. is it legal to perform with fire in public?

I know it's bad form to bump a thread, but I wanted to add more data, even if it's incomplete.

I don't know the legality of fire dancing in Seoul, but there's a fairly famous fire poi spinner in Seoul.
Here's his contact stuff:
http://www.poiclub.com/
http://twitter.com/#!/poiclub

Since he's fairly high profile, I'm going to assume that the police/fire departments are relatively OK with public fire performances. I'll try to meet up with him, when I get into the city.

So, I guess my next question is "Where can I buy lamp oil in Korea?"

I'll be in Seoul around 22nd July. I juggle (not fire) and also unicycle. Haven't seen any unicycles in Korea yet Sad

I am Daejeon. If there are any jugglers around there then let me know!

I bought an old unicycle off a fellow on here a few years ago, but rarely ride it. From time to time, while I'm riding my bike around some bike paths, I've seen the occasional unicycle from time to time, usually being ridden by older Korean men. I've also seen a few for sale in bike shops from time to time, but have never bothered to check into prices. They may not be common, but they're around.

I do contact juggling. I'm not in country yet, but I should be in Seoul in August. I'll probably take trips around the country in my free time, so a meetup is totally in the cards.

I've seen a few Korean mountain unicycling videos on youtube but I never got a reply when I emailed one of them. I guess I've not been in Korea long enough to see any unicycles being ridden (it's not like I've seen many in the UK!).

@Hiromi C - yes, I will be in Daejeon in August! I was going to get a contact ball to learn with while I was in Korea but I was very busy just before I left so I never got round to it.

I went to a bar and the staff were doing juggling tricks with bottles and fire as entertainment for the patrons, sort of a Tom Cruise in Cocktails thing. I hear that the bar caught fire, although the word was that it was caused by a kitchen fire.

@unigamer: Awesome. We'll have to meet up then. You don't really need a special ball for contact. Depending on your hand size, anything that's 76mm or larger will work out pretty well. As long as it has some weight to it, it's fine. I've seen a lot of people pick up contact with stage balls, so if you already have some of those, you're set.

I have a plastic contact ball (not with me) but I don't like it very much since I tried someone's acrylic ball! I'm not adverse to spending some money on juggling stuff. I don't think I'll start contact stuff while I am in Korea, only 6 weeks or so left and I still have 5 ball toss juggling to perfect.

Sounds great! I do fire poi and fire contact juggling. I got in touch with the Korean fire poi performer, too.

I'd love for all of us to meet up and do burns and/or spinjams. Once we both get to Korea, we'll have to meet up.

Yay, this warms my heart as I'm leaving a life I love to adventure to other pastures. It would be awesome to bring some of that life with me. Smile cant wait for a burn in Korea. Hmmm need to check out the laws though hey. I almost got done burning in Hawaii randomly. whoopsie.
