I am extremely frustrated right now.
I was told that the expected time to process the reports has changed from 6 weeks to 8.
I am on my 6th week now, and have 2 more to go...
I'm worried that it might be too late by then.
I have all of my documents, passed the interview, etc... If only I knew it would take this long... |
That is ridiculous. They've changed it to 8 weeks. That ticks me off. I've sent my stuff during the beginning of June and need it soon. |

good luck guys, honestly you should look for other hagwon jobs in the meantime. Prepare for not making the cut in fall and just applying for your E2 on your own |

Come on, unless you have been under a rock for the past half a year, how have you not known about this??? FBI has been saying it will take 8 weeks for the longest time. Believe me, I'm not trying to defend them or anything, because the entire process is ridiculous, but own up to your own f-up. |
I didn't know the process had changed and that you couldn't use the state check. I've been out of Korea for a couple of years. They've processed my credit card on the 13th of June, and it's the 19th of July, and I still have not received anything. I need to have my visa by the middle of August, I reckon. This is taking a long time. They've had my credit info. at least since June 5th. I need that check very soon. I can't wait another 2 more weeks since I need to do the apostille. I would have paid extra if I could have had it processed faster. |
Ok, that I can understand more. If you've beenout of the country and your school / recruiter didn't inform you right away that you'd need these documents, then that sucks and the whole proces is lame. I'm more tired of hearing kids that have been in Korea complain about it. Good thing come next year, everyone will hopefully be expecting this and preparing for it. I had to do my FBI CRC with apostille and degree notarization while in Korea. Talk about a pain in the butt, and Korean immigration wasn't much help on the matter. I think mine took a total of about 12 weeks to get. Yeah, if you're down to the last minute with the waiting game, I'd say try to book a backup plan. |

Received from the FBI July 19.
Thus, I received this 5 weeks after they charged my card. |

Now, with the apostille, is the same as getting the apostille for the diploma? I am not sure I get it. The FBI did stamp and signed the background check. Do I, then, just send it to the department of state with a check for 8 bucks and a priority mail envelope, and they send it back with their stamp near where the FBI did it and sign it? |

yes now you send it to dc and wait for the apostille.
you wont make it by mid august by the way.
3 weeks for apostille IF youre lucky, 10 days for your visa number, a few days to send the docs to sk, 2 days or more if youre going to mail it to your consulate.
unless you plan on a road trip to dc youre SOL. |

You can have your diploma apostilled at state level.
If you live close, have it done the same day...at
your capital.
I sent my prints off in early May.
Still waiting for my apostille from D.C.
The FBI fudged up some time and didn't send
the seal and signature on the report. Their records
said that it happened. Just shows you what kind
of cluster fak! is going on there.
Who knows if I'll get it by mid-Aug. Good luck. |

Sent for Apostille July 20th (priority mail and enclosed priority mail envelope) and have a tracking number.
We will see what happens.... At least, I have the FBI check. Would it be a problem if I replace my passport for a new one. Mine is somewhat damaged. I've traveled with it before. Just a question....I think it takes about 2 weeks if I rush for getting my damaged passport replaced. |

If you want to get a new passport, keep in mind that you will be assigned a new passport number; your employer has your current passport number.
It should be OK to get a new passport now since your documents haven't been sent to Korean immigration yet; but do it right away. Also you would need to send your employer a scanned copy of your new passport info page. |

My current passport sustained some water damage, but the page where my photo is and all is very readable and clear. It's clear that on the pages there has been water damage. It happened in Korea. I did travel with it and use it no problem. I was just wondering if I should replace it. I just called the passport office and they said if I travelled with it before, then it should be fine as long as people can stamp it, and read the information page, which they clearly can. It would be risky to apply for a new one, I think since I am waiting for the apostille.
I could do that once I am in Korea. I might just apply for a replacement once I get my visa and get there. Then, I would have to inform Korean immigration, I am sure. |

I received my CBC on July 21. I sent my fingerprints on May 25.
I had to call my congressman to speed things up.
I'm happy I finally got my background check, but the FBI customer service is just ridiculous. I looked at my CBC and it says it was completed on July 5. What the hell was taking their sweet time? Can you believe they told me to wait until the end of the month? |

Just an update on things.
My BC was sent off to the FBI April 29th or so and came back June 13th.
My BC was sent off to DoS June 14th and came back July 17th.
I Overnighted my BC to DoS, made about 6 phone calls, plus the last one to "Operations" where I gave my contact information, they called me back and sent the BC out ----with apostille--- the next day.
I guess taking a month to get my BC back from DoS is alright, but I still think I ought not to have had to "ride herd" on these people day after day to get it done. FWIW.
Best Wishes,
Bruce |

There's a company in DC that can get the apostille on same-day processing. PM me if you want their info. It's legit. I got mine this way. Not chep, but definitely fast. |

Here's how mine went:
first set was rejected, then did them again.
Received by FBI May 30.
Results sent back to my parents July 23.
So a little less than two months, but had they been sent to Korea, would have been closer to two months.
My parents live near DC so was going to have them walk it in to the DOS, but my contract ended and I'm back in the US. So I'm not really in a hurry anymore.
But anyway, about two months for the background check to get back. Apostille, well I'm not really the person to ask |
