Well, I have been with the same school for four years and just signed my last contract. I went to immigration with the usual forms (no FBI check or apostilled degree) and had no problems. I have never submitted an FBI check nor a notarized or apostilled degree.
My contract and visa were set to end on February 28, 2011. I applied after January 1, 2011 and got my ARC card back within a week. My ARC card is now valid until March 28, 2012.
This was done in Busan. I hope everyone else has as easy of a time as I did. |

I am really going to get it for this, but appears as if I am totally f%$#d.
I started my E2 visa in June of 2009. However, between that time and August of 2010, I transferred jobs 2 times. I started my current job in August of 2010, and planned on renewing. I was told that because I was renewing at the same job ,I didn't need my FBI background check, nor other documents. I was also told that I could get a letter stating that I would promise to get my FBI check, since it will take at least 8 weeks to get. Everyone is saying different things, and it is really confusing.
However, I was denied renewal at immigration today. At this point, I have no idea what to do because my visa expires in 2 weeks. Seems all is lost.

6 choices:
i) get a plane ticket out and get a job in another country.
ii) leave. return (get your 90 days) and then find a job in a new country.
iii) head for a beach in Thailand or the Philippines (where the living is cheap) and find a new job in another country
iv) marry a Korean (fast) and get an F2.
v) go home
vi) order a new set of documents then head for a beach and wait for their arrival then get a new E2 (provided there is no reason not to get them).

Yea looks like i'm f=4\@#$.
What I don't understand is why people have said they went to immigration without the FBI check, and renewed at the same school/co with no problem. A guy in my company did it about 3 months ago. |

The confusion has been going on for years actually. There never really has been clarity, so its best if you cover all your bases. Prepare anything that may possibly be required. |

| you know i'm not an expert on this but the common sense thing to do is get a lawyer, by that a i mean an immigration lawyer they have them all over the city, for people who plan to invest or for people looking to start a foreign business in korea. Many of these immigration lawyers first concultation is free and they can also consult via e-mail so ask all the questions you need and ask the right ones. |

| I'm at an elementry school now, i will be here untill nov 3 2011, i came to korea in 2008, but last year i had to have to re-new my old visa because i let it expire. I recieved a new visa in 2010 before the rule, all i gave them was a crc and diploma notorized. So now my contract will finish nov 3 of this year and my visa expires nov 27 the only problem i might have is i have my FBI check and i do have a offence but i never gave it to them. Ive been teaching for 3 years, and i never had to give a FBI Check. If i stay at the same school will my trasnfer just require a resign and use my same documents. Or if i go to another school will it be ok. |

| you know don't believe everything you hear, just because somebody said on the internet does not mean it is true, do your own research. contact the embassy or talk to someone you know who have actually been through it recently. |

Haven't been long in Korea I see.
Your embassy has nothing to do with it, can't offer legal, legitimate or even up-to-date information.
The Korean embassies/consulates abroad have nothing to do with renewals, extensions, transfers and have NO current, legitimate or up-to-date information on the requirements or the process.
Bottom line:
If you want accurate information you can ask at the local immigration office but be sure to get the name of the person answering your questions because when you return, if it is not the same person at the counter you may get different answers and/or requirements.
Slightly aside:
If you came after Jan 2011 you do not need anything new in the way of documentation to renew, extend or transfer. You MAY need all new documents if you plan to do a runner and come back looking for a new visa.
If you came in 2010 AND you provided a national CBC (everyone except Americans) you are probably fine but there ARE exceptions.
If you are American and you did NOT use an FBI check you will need one AFTER Dec. 2011 to do any changes to your status of sojourn.
Most people, unless they were actually told they needed new documents, who have not had a change of status in 2011 will be allowed 1 change of status without the need for new documents.
