I suppose it depends on what you define as important. It sounds like a cliche when they talk about how important the Pistols were. Sadly, they inspired many bands that thought rebellion was all about looking untidy and acting deranged.

Andrew Eldritch used to be so stylish, then he discovered cookies. I was never a goth fan, but he used to take pride in his appearance.

I prefer Sputnik's music and sense of humour. They were a complete send-up of all the stupidity that comes with celebrity.

I find the Pistols music to be a bit depressing.

Yeah, I suppose Sputnik made a lot more sense if you grew up in the old country. Over in the states the Pistols along with the Clash, Siouxie et al had a mega impact on the creation of a myriad of DIY scenes where kids could free themselves of top 10 fodder/corporate programming. The music itself fed into a lot of independant thinking in general.

The problem Sputnik had was they started to lose popularity very fast.

That's probably why EMI didn't promote them properly in the US.

I also think they were ahead of their time, people got sick of them quickly.

MTV metal has not aged well. Good for a laugh, barely.
