Hi

To any from the UK, with the latest process, what's the quickest way possible to 1. get a criminal record check and 2. get it apostilled? Most uni jobs are asking for already apostilled docs upon application, as opposed to arrival.

Thanks

Disclosure Scotland - 10 days (includes notarization - but a lot of people seem to receive a check that has not been notarized - myself included - and had to send it back, thus prolonging the time - Disclosure Scotland will not send via airmail). There are also some rumors about Disclosure Scotland not being acceptable in the future, so need to keep an eye on that.

Then, the ONLY place to get an apostille is from the FCO in Milton Keynes. Previously, they did same day, over counter service, but now they only deal with applications via post - they quote around 3 weeks.

Unfortunately, you've now got to allow up to 2 months to get the whole process comfortably done if you also factor in getting the Disclosure Scotland docs and forms submitted as well.

A real pain and I for one don't want to go through the apostille hoops again. Also check if your uni will offer an E1 visa - this visa category doesn't require apostilles, and maybe not even a criminal record check at all (although you'd have to confirm this latter point, as I'm a bit out of date on visa class knowledge).

The FCO will sent back the documents in the next working day if their isn't any foreseeable problems and you can even pay a little extra for FEDEX. (6 well it's little compared to the possibility of royal mail)

Also if disclosure Scotland forget the notary just drop by a solicitor from what i hear around 5 which maybe cheaper and is definitely less hassle. (not to sure about this will have to have someone confirm this part)

OK thanks guys (thank god about the fast apostille turnaround; 3 weeks would have meant no job for me.)

Three questions:

1. Is Disclosure Scotland DEFINITELY currently OK to use? I was told a year or two back that we had to use the police check and so got myself one of those. I really can't wait for the police check though as it takes ages.

2. Why does it need to be notarized; I thought the crim check just had to be apostilled? my word this is confusing.

3. what type of disclosure do our Korean overlords require? There is a basic, standard or enhanced.

About 7 or 8 months ago I did the 40 day criminal check, whatever that one was. I can't remember if it was disclosure Scotland, what's the other one called? I think it cost me a tenner

I didn't notarise anything. I legalised my degree copy for a fiver at the nearest solicitors' and that was enough to get the appostille. From all I've read on here Korean immigration don't give a damn about the notary, only the appostille.

I wish I could remember this in more detail, but I'm pretty sure the CRB check didn't require notarising/legalising before it could be appostilled. I believe I only got the solicitors stamp and signature on my degree copy and then sent both to be appostilled

I hope this helps
