| The cheapest way is probably to pay for extra baggage on your flight. It stinks to schlepp your stuff all over, but price for pound it is cheaper than any postal options. |

That's too expensive.
If you can, try to find a specialized parcel company. My mom used a place in L.A. that was $60 flat rate for a box that could fit a 20 liter keg of beer. They didn't care about the weight. The post office is a ripoff. |

I don't think any of these exist in the area where my mom lives (Livermore, CA). We just have the basics - USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc. as far as I know. |

| So I'm having my mom ship me a pretty massive care package with shirts, supplements, shaving accessories, etc. Possibly headphones as well if it doesn't add too much to the cost. I remember my recruiter telling me that FedEx was the most reliable shipping method and I ended paying $50 to send a few documents, which was ridiculous. My grandparents sent me a sweatshirt via USPS and it cost around $30, made it here in only a week. Since this shipment is going to have a value of $150-250 I want to make sure it gets here. What's the most cost effective method of shipping? How much should I be expecting to pay? Has anyone had any packages get lost? |
Keep it under $150 INCLUDING shipping costs or it
will get stuck in customs.
USPS and sent to you at your school is the best bet.
Sent a copy of your schools address (written or printed in large font in Korean) and have her stick that on the box as well as addressing it in English.
Should arrive in 2 weeks or so.

Just wondering, why $150? My mom is sending me a package from the US valued at ~$250 (digital camera, iPod speakers, clothing, supplements, etc). Should she lie and say it's worth less? Are they actually going to open it up and search it? Am I going to have to pay taxes or something over $150? |

Hahah "should she lie".. well, if you're trying to sell it, you pump up the price, but if it's something you own, it's probably worth not very much, so just say $75, eh?
If it's more than $150, YES, you will pay for it |

I'm thinking about just claiming the package to be worth $50 since shipping will probably be over $80...do they actually open the package up and inspect? Is this a bad idea? |
