so after waiting a couple of weeks i finally got a game sent over from home (new zealand), i got my ps2 that i bought over here modded in seoul and figured it wouldnt be a problem to play the game..............................ALAS...........................the game boots ok and runs fine but the problem seems to be with the tv, its like the vertical hold thing has gone haywire, and there is lines running up the tv. i can make out the characters and if i push buttons things happen in the game so thats all good news i guess but iuts no fricken use trying to play the game like this.

someone said something in this forum about pal/ntsc tvs, i dont know the digfference, care to elaborate for me?, this is the game to get me through the last 2 months of a crappy contract, PLEASE HELP!!! cheers!!!

your tv isnt compatible with the pal system...the only solution I am aware of is to get a ntsc/pal playback tv

whats the story with pal/ntsc tv's, are they easy to find?, and why is it that all the other games i hyave for my ps2 dont do this?, this is THE GAME me and a few friends want to play right now!, i waited all this time to get this game (rugby league 2003 by the way) and we are so close to hooking it up. so basically i was thinking of buying a better tv so are these pal/ntsc jobs readily available over here anyone know?

and why is it that my other ps2 games work on my current tv but this one doesnt, i dont think its the chip in my ps2 because the game works fine but its like the tv is just crapping out.

Pal is the system used in the UK, Australia and NZ... where else Im not too sure. I presume most of the games you have are from here, which means they are NTSC and not a problem.
As for getting a tv with ntsc/pal playback, it shouldnt be too difficult. Sony black trinitrons were always a good one to buy, but nowdays most companies offer models that deal with both. You'll also find the same problem when trying to watch dvds from home.
FYI, you can get rubgy union 2004 in english at yongsan

There's a lot of demand for PAL/NTSC units back home, since a lot of good material comes out of NTSC territories, but there doesn't seem to be similar demand vice versa..

Perhaps you can get a box that sits between the console and the TV, but I'm not sure.

Just get a cheapo dual-system TV. Go halves with your mates and it should be sweet.

jae.
