Everything about her made my skin crawl. I haven't had such a negative visceral reaction to someone since Gary Busey.

I recognize that she had talent even if I couldn't appreciate it or her in any way. I feel sorry for her family, but that's about it.

Did anyone hear about or see the footage from her failed attempt at a comeback just a month ago:

Perhaps she was channeling Kurt Kobain.

I never liked her music. How she won a Grammy still eludes me.

She had a very rare gift in her smokey, bluesy, authentic voice. It compares to any jazz singer of the 20th century. Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, any of those jazz singer legends you care to name, well, Amy's voice was just as good.

Unfortunately, she also seems to have a had a weakness for substances. Doesn't make her a bad person in my books. Just unfortunate.

But if you couldn't hear the talent and quality in Amy Winehouse's voice.....then I would suggest you review your criteria for musical appraisal.

I agree with all this. I wasn't really a fan of her style of music, but she was very good at what she did. I think it's really sad that she joined the 27 club. It's too predictable, and yet I didn't quite see it coming. I figured the apparent extent of her drug use must have been a publicity stunt, because I just couldn't figure how someone could be such a living cliche (the junkie blues singer)... I guess I prefer my junkies unpredictable.

Really sad. Not as sad as the mass killing in Norway, but sad.

Whatever else you might think about her, give a few minutes to appreciate her magical voice:

I was over in Korea in 2008 when I discovered her amazing talent - up until then I had only heard about her for the wrong reasons - from the tawdry headlines.

Anyway, the first time I saw her perform was in a concert she did that was available free online - did not even need to pirate it. I watched it with my Korean girlfriend, who thought she was unremarkable at best. We actually argued about it - I was trying to explain the concepts of "earthiness" and "soul" to her, but she would not listen.

Why would she? When you have Girls' Generation with songs like Run Devil Run, you can't listen to anything else.

Sorry to see her friends and family didn't seem very interested in helping her. But with junkies you eventually just have to give up.
