Hey folks,
I'm heading to the Philippenes this winter.
Have any of you fellas done any fishing there?
I'm looking for anything at all: Big or small; river, lake, or deep sea; troling, poping, flyfishing.. whatever!
All I want is a good fish for a reasonable price. I was checking some websites and the prices are anywhere from $160.00- $200.00 a day. I can pay less for that fishing Atlantic Salmon on the Miramichi River for crying out loud!
Any suggestions?
The Bye. |

Walk down the beach. Find a fisherman with a motor in his boat.
Go out with him. Cost you $20 (~p1000) per day and he will cook lunch for you.
If you just want to rod fish for reef fish in a row boat you can do it for about p300 per day (buy your own rod and reel in town).
Get a tourist boat and pay $200 for much less.
Oh, and you can cast off the beach for free.

Philippines (Republic of).
Where in the country are you headed to? (7007 islands to choose from)
If you are going to enjoy the nightlife of Angles or Makati City there won't be much fishing (outside of the girly bars) on your holiday.
If you are headed for one of the other 7006 islands....
I own a house and live on Bohol (up island from Alona beach) so when I am not working here or in Thailand I am there so I have some clue about what I am talking about.
Yes, I have experience fishing in the RP. Your original post was pretty unspecific so the answer was equally as generic.
Yes, it is as easy as walking down to the beach at sunrise and hiring the first banka or pump boat you come to and just as cheap (unless you want to behave like an American tourist - then they will take you for everything they can (Kano prices)).
As for big fish, what are you looking for and how big? Most game fish are in deep water (to the east of the country).
If you want to go for game fish (tuna, etc) you will pay for it (unless you want to hitch a ride on a tuna boat for a week or two).
You can catch decent fish anywhere around the islands (2-20 lb) without much trouble and not a lot of time (but don't go fishing in someone's fish pond or you may get shot).
You are not supposed to use dynamite when you fish (in spite of what the locals may tell you).
