I've been here for more than ten years now, with only two 1-week trips home (Canada), years ago. I've got a couple questions...
1) In Korea, they don't seem to show movie previews before a movie. It's cellphone and air conditioner commercials. Is it like that back home, too?
2) I never belonged to a health club back home, but I go to one here. The music is so loud, it's like I'm in a night club. Is it a Korean thing, or a health club thing?

| Regarding the movies, they show previews sometimes, it's just not the fifteen minutes of previews you can count on in North America. Generally speaking, Asian movie theaters show way less previews than you get at home, if any. |

1. Depends. Sometimes you may see some trailers in Korea, but you definitely will not get as many previews as you would get in the states.
2. Sounds like it's your health club. I've seen some in Korea where it's deathly quiet and some in the U.S. where they play metal way too loud. I suppose a lot depends on who is supervising the weight room and what their policies are. |

Lengthy previews is something I really do miss. There's nothing quite like a well-cut trailer to build anticipation for a film, and it's not the same watching them on youtube as it is seeing them on the big screen. And let's face it, these days the previews are usually better than whatever blockbuster film they're promoting.
Don't know how Koreans can ever feel excited about seeing any movie with the situation as it is. |

2) Almost all Gyms play Music loudly in America every single 24 Hour Fitness, Bally's, NYSC, etc.
i bring my own Music and like to get away to the Cardio room or some place quiet about mid-way through working out
Night Club loud? hopefully its not every Gym or bring your own tunes and zone out |

In America, there are usually advertisements before the main previews. Many of them are only shown in the theaters and will have a movie theme. Also, they will show the longer version of regular commercials sometimes. Most of the ones I recall seeing were for candy, soft drinks or personal electronic devices. This is true of the Regal Cinema theaters, I don't know about other ones.
I never noticed a difference in volume between my gyms. Although, the one I went to in Bucheon was significantly smaller so it could get very loud near the speakers. |

But trailers should be seen in a cinema with proper sound. Have you been to any cinemas with surround sound here? There are mostly CGV theatres in my area, but none of them seems to even have surround sound. I was always a bit disappointed with the sound here, but it first hit me how horrible it was when I got a first row seat and noticed that I was sitting right in front of the only speakers in the room. In other words it was unbearably loud. |

the heck you doing in the First Row...only movie i can ever recall having to sit First Row was a Batman Premiere where the theater was packed
hope this was the case because First Row blows for any Movie, in any Theater  |

| I can't remember what I was watching, and it might not have literary been first row, maybe 4th or so. But back home in THX certified (I don't know if that actually mean anything or is just a gimic, but I still miss the THX intro which makes your seats shake) theatres, the sound will be pretty amazing even if you've got horrible seats. I'm pretty sure the worst seat back home has better sound than the best seat at the cinemas I have been to here. |
