Hi All.
I just wanted to see if anyone has ever faced this issue before...
I was offered a job in South Korea at the end of May to start in Aug. I had all my documents ready to go BUT then I found out my FBI background check couldn't be notarized as easily as my other documents so I had to send it off to get notarized by FBI. That took about 10 days.
Then I had to send it to DC to get apostilled. It is now July 27th and I still haven't gotten it back! I have called the Secretary of State, I have hired an agency to go and pick up my document...still nothing. In the meantime, there are no jobs in Seoul with my program. (I was hired with EPIK) I can be placed in a smaller town but don't really want that.
I'm just upset and wanted to share..anyone else face this?
So now what do I do? Do I start over looking for a job? UGGG!
Thanks |

There are lots of threads about your type of situation; read them and maybe you can find some comfort in knowing many people are going through the same crap!!
Good Luck! |

Yes similar thing happened to me, they said that my TEFL cert was not acceptable in Spanish for a few weeks .. They while I was trying to get a new one they decided it was acceptable like 2 days ago and offered me a few places which might not seem that good.
I considered starting again and doing a private school but to save money and hassle I am opting to go with EPIK and hope that I end up in a medium sized place!! Then arpund Christmas start looking for a University job in person in a bigger city. Good luck !! |

Thanks ... yea I guess a lot of people go through this. I am just so frustrated. I have actually written my state senators!
I guess I just have to see how my cards fall. I was also thinking of working in a private school in Seoul, but like you don't feel like dealing with all the hassle. But I can't do anything until I get back my document! Ugggg |

Same thing happened to me. Been waiting for the US Sec to stamp my CRC for 2 months. I called and they told me to come in person to retrieve because they are 3 months behind processing documents submitted in April.
My situation is I has hired by a private school for 4.6 million won a month
I don't want to lose this job because of a goddamn stamp. |

OMG 2 months! This is just crazy! I'm actually an using ProEx. It's a company in DC that goes and picks up documents for people. It's been a week and he still hasnt been able to get it tho. But it's better than waiting for them to do it!
They charge like 60 bucks. So much cheaper than traveling there Try giving them a call. Ask for Bill that's who I'm working with. He's super nice. He goes every morning to pick up the doc. I just keep waiting and hoping for the best.
Good luck! Let me know how it goes |

Has it really come to this?!?
They actually have companies who go to the DoS to "lean On" them to get our documents back!
Wow!
The entire process took about 3 months for me from beginning to end--fingerprints, CBC, and then apostille.
When I called the DoS(like everyone else has been doing), the lady told me that the backlog was mainly KOREAN REQUESTS-go figure!!
For those of you still going through this BS; I feel for you--really!
Good Luck!! |

So is this really hopeless?? This is the first time I am going to work abroad. So what does a person do in this situation? Just sit at home and wait? Look for a new job? Get another FBI background check ..... and fly to DC to get it apostilled? |

either fly to dc and get it apostlled,
find out if your state will apostille it (ca does it fast but only if it doesnt have kimberlys signature)
sit at home and wait
those are your options
oh yea, to mr. 4.6 dont get your hopes up. unless you have a phd i call 100% bs on your dream job newbie |

UP YOURS marsavalanche. I'm not a newbie.
I've been in Korea for 4 years, have my own apartment and I already interviewed at the school in person and was hired.
I also have signed the contract and I will start orientation on August 11th. |
