How have you suffered because of the heavy rain lately? I haven't save a part of my wall that got wet last week. I know others fared worse than I did, though. |

No problems for me as I'm on vacation and just home all the time.......
.............but I sure do feel sorry for the approx 50% of Koreans who are coerced into taking their Summer vacation this week (and this week only!!) and will either just cancel their plans and sit home, or carry out their plans and struggle their way to a rain-sodden few days at the seaside. |

I've suffered by having my favorite bball court flooded as well as all the bikes paths next to the Han and its tributaries. My kids are home on vacation and we have little opportunity to enjoy the outdoors together. I find it very frustrating. |

It hasn't affected the southeastern part of the peninsula yet, except for Gumi folk having to truck in water due to the Lee Myung Bak water project.
Koreans wouldn't use the word 'suffer.' They'd more or less use 'affected' as they go through the daily motions and also help each other out.
One thing I've sort of changed my thinking about is looking around at what other people are doing and try to change my own actions and beliefs.
Sorry to get so deep westerners do tend to think of themselves more and the "it only happens to me" philosophy. |

Nor here on Jeju.
Last Saturday, Sunday, Monday it was beautifully sunny as I was camping. Then Tuesday and Wednesday it did rain, but not a lot nor heavy like in June. This Friday to Sunday was again sunny, with periods of overcast and rumbling quick short showers, quickly clearing up again, much like it did the two weeks I spent in Guam back in '09.
But, alas, the good beach weather will end tommorrow, as the forecast is for rain on Monday and Tuesday, in fact, the hourly forecast puts probability of rain and thunder throughout the next two days at 85+%. No sunshine until Thursday it seems, just in time for the weekend once again. |

More mold on my walls, I've had to change my weekend plans to more indoor activities, I have been very lazy about going to the gym etc. I shouldn't complain too much though, my house didn't get crushed under a mudslide or anything |

The images of cars being submerged and half-basement (banjiha) apartments flooded will stay with me for a while. To think I almost considered moving into a half-basement apartment, thank goodness my friends talked me out of it. |

yes. moving here from one of the sunniest cities in america has been a letdown to say the least. hell even nyc (which has bad weather) seems like santa monica compared to this place. it's that bad.
if i decide to stay here for life it's going to be jeju or busan. seoul is great, but the weather is almost always bad |

This weather has me angry too!!! Yes, my life is not a calamity. But it still sucks when you work all year and get some vacation in August and this is the stupid weather you get stuck with. Usually August is sunny and hot. But last year and this year, it rains all the time. If it were global warming the weather would change more gradually over a long period of time. Not suddenly like this. Sure wish some Koreans would lobby for changing the vacation times. Instead of now, maybe late September or something when it's sunny and warm. Taking vacation now is total BS!!! |

For you vacationers, remember this maxim: if it's not out of Korea, it ain't a vacation. I know people who go to Gangwon Province for a break and it ain't that good of a break. I was gonna hit Chuncheon but I hear the flash floods did a number on that city. |

My whole family has suffered because we stayed in country for my 2 week vacation. We had plans to hit up various spots around Korea. All of those plans were 'kaiboshed' by the rains. I feel bad for those who 'truely' suffered however. I'm thankful I live in the mountains of eastern Seoul and on the 12th floor. |

Me too, I chose to just stick around here this vacation. I'm already on the NE coast so no worries about traffic, but where's summer?
Raining again today, I think that makes a month now of daily precip. At least Sokcho is no stranger to rain, it drains well.
I went to the beach yesterday anyway & it really was almost business as usual. Families were out enjoying themselves swimming & snacking, playing soccer, volleyball, whatever, in the steady drizzle. In fact the mood was remarkably cheerful. Comfortable temps.
Sokcho city has put up some big banners near the beach entrance:
NO SUN! I'm cry cry T.T
NO SUN! ALCOHOL 이빠이 이빠이!!
[How does that translate exactly? I think its an encouragement to drown your sorrows. Includes a cartoon of a couple guys chugging from bottles.] |

Random guess, but checked on Naver and an entry about Japanese came up. They say "ippai" to order another glass of booze, so maybe it's that? |
