I looked this up online but I couldn't find a clear answer on this. From what I understand, when they initially made the changes at the beginning of this year, it was required. However they recently repealed that decision and a new cbc is not needed as long as you don't leave the country. Can anyone verify this or not? Logically it makes sense to not have to get a new cbc if you never leave Korea, but that doesn't mean its true or not. Anyone have experience with this?

The answer is a definite maybe and depends on YOUR specific circumstances.

Where are you from? If you are from Canada the rules ARE different (they are not a party to the "Apostille Treaty"..

Do you have an apostilled "National" CBC on file?
- if you are from the states it must be an FBI CBC but, depending on YOUR circumstances, you may be allowed one change of status before it is required.

Do you have an apostilled (photo)copy of your degree on file?
- If you used your "original" rather than an apostilled copy you may need to get it done (or you may be allowed one extension before you need it - same as the CBC).

Have you had a change of status in this calendar year (2011)?
-IF you have then you DO need to have an apostilled "federal" CBC on file AND you need an apostilled degree copy on file as well or you will NOT be allowed to do an extension.

If you want a DEFINITIVE answer then contact immigration and ASK about your specific case.

I am asking specifically because if I want to change jobs at the end of my contract, will I need to go through the whole ordeal again, or am I exempt because I have already done so and have not gone home. I'm from the US. This last time I came over was after Jan of this year so they should have my FBI CBC and Apostilled diploma on record. I am assuming that they would at least. I have had no change of status either. It sounds like I am in the clear but there are variables that could effect if I need to or not perhaps.

I understood the why but there was not enough information in your original post to give you an accurate answer.

If they have an apostilled FBI CBC AND an apostilled COPY of your degree on file at Kimmi then you can do a simple transfer:

ARC
passport
new contract
application
fee
new employer's business registration (copy)
new employers letter of guarantee (sponsorship form)
LOR (IF you are transferring with more than 1 week left in your old contract).
