I went to get my ARC card the other day at Incheon immigration. It was there that I was told the law was changed. To get the ARC you need to submit to them a set of fingerprints....

Is this at every immigration office? anyone else run into this?

Thoughts?

As of July 1st, every foreign resident will be required to submit prints and electronic image when they register, extend or by the end of the year (whichever comes first).

tit for tat. They are just returning the favor the US started when they required all foreigners entering the US to submit prints and electronic photo.

Oh, and it is nothing new. Up until 2004 ALL foreigners were required to submit prints EVERY time you got a new ARC.

It's not new, it's just bringing it back.

I had to give my finger prints when I came over in 2001.

Ditto.

And none of us who went in really cared about them doing it.

So do I have to give them a set of finger prints or does immigration have a scanner?

Is this for tourists, too? Those teaching on tourist visas should be required to give finger prints, too.

Hrm...not sure if this deserves a golf-clap or a face-palm...but since soju has been here a while, I'll go with the former....

Well played, sir. Well played!

So, do you have to bring fingerprints from a Korean police station before you visit the immigration office, or can you have them done at the immigration office?
