Hi there,
I want to go to korea on my own terms maybe stay for a bit with a friend, but Im going to bring all my docs with me so if i do decide to stay I can work as a teacher. Will I have to go back home to get a visa or can I do it in Korea?
Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Depends on:
i) have you had an E2 before?
ii) where are you from (country of origin).

If you are American then Guam is an option for a visa run.

If you are NOT then do it from home or any country where you have legal residence.

Previous E2 means you can do a visa run to anywhere.

Yes, you can come over on your dime and scout the ground.

Just make sure all the docs are notarized and apostilled in advance and the CBC not outdated if you plan on job hunting within Korea. Also note that the job scene might go a bit flat after the Sept 1st newhire semester intake.

My husband came over without a visa, but he needed a letter from his future employers to be able to board the plane with a one-way ticket. Once he was here he did the visa run to Guam.

A job is no longer garuanteed.
It ain't like it used to be. You might end up hanging around for 3 months spending a fortune on accomodation and your visa runs out.

Jobs are quite thin on the ground and (unfortunately) irish is not at the top of the list of desired nationalities.
If you're an attractive female under 25 though I dare say you'll have no problems.

it never used to be that way except with certin airlines. Maybe they're tightening up.
