THe US embassy refuses to disclose the evacuation assembly point for wartime evacuation of US citizens. They told me that in the event of war some volunteer "warden" would stop by my place and tell me what to do/where to go. Seems pretty unlikely.............

What about other countries citizens here in Korea? Where does your embassy plan to evacuate from? I know some plan to use some of the major hotels as assembly points (theoretically anyway).

Why are so many people making threads and freaking out about this so much lately? There's not going to be a war. If there were going to be, it would have been about 8 or 10 months ago when tensions got as hot as I've seen them in the last 5 years.

You don't need an evacuation plan, because there are only 3 possible scenarios:

1 - NK fires first and within 12 hours, the situation will be under control. NK has military equipment dating back more than half a century. SK and US forces have the latest and greatest in military technology. There are about 30k US forces always sitting on go here, plus over half a million active duty ROK soldiers with another 3 million on ready reserve. At the first hint at invasion or outward hostility by NK, the US will cripple all of their defense capabilities and bring Pyongyang to it's knees. SK will secure the border within 2 or 3 hours. If a hundred NK soldiers made it out of the DMZ, I'd be surprised.

2 - NK, instead of launching a traditional nuclear attack (which would be impossible if you understand all the particulars on the subject) sneak a mini nuke, a "suitcase" bomb in Seoul and detonate it without warning. The blast will take out a large area and resulting radio active wave will contaminate most of Gyoungi-do. If you weren't lucky enough to be obliterated in the blast, you won't have to worry about trying to evacuate because no ones going to let you leave anyways. Everything north of Daegu will be sealed off and all left inside will be treated in place.

3 - There probably wont ever be a continuation of hostilities that would justify a mass evacuation. You may get too paranoid and choose to leave of your own free will. But it will probably be on a Korean Air flight and it will be along side a Korean newlywed couple going to Hawaii for their honeymoon. Won't you feel silly then?

Stop fretting over an evacuation plan. There are bigger things to worry about. Like making sure your hagwon doesn't go under before your contract is up or that your public school doesn't decide to lay off foreign teachers because of funding cutbacks.

Or, when you decide to move, making sure your landlord doesn't try to stiff you on a deposit because you left the apartment "less than satisfactory."

Or that your Korean gf isn't running around on you with her soldier bfs or Korean salary men that pop down to Thailand or Philippines and bang hookers with no rubbers.

Or getting too drunk in Itaewon or Hongdae and get beat down by a band of university students that are on an anti-foreigner tirade.

Or getting fat because you're opting for more and more pizza and hamburgers because you're getting tired of Korean food.

All those things and much more bother me more than the thought of another war. Much less an invasion by NK. Haha, that one really makes me laugh. You really have to understand how outmatched their military is. Instead of trying to get out of town and find your way around, you're safest bet would be to just stay in your apartment and watch the news.

This could easily be discussed in the 2 other topics the OP has started regarding similar topics. Topics that are both in the ten latest threads listed. Please do not saturate the board with similar threads in the future. One will suffice.
