Some ugly stuff going down.

Actually it sounds like a bit of fun for all concerned.

Some banners read Stop Japan! or You die! Other protesters carried a coffin plastered with photos of the lawmakers.

An annual bit of pantomime starring the usual loons.

Still, even though the LDP guys were obviously trying to stir the pot and provoke a response, it's pretty annoying to see the overblown and self-righteous reaction on the Korean side (including idiot protesters holding up banners telling Japan to "go die") every time the issue is brought up...

I never noticed this. Koreans don't have any interests on these crazy protests unless if the protests are about ousting Korean right-wing politicians.

Oh it's definitely a reaction contained to an idiotic few, but the media always makes a spectacle out of it. At any rate, I like Korea in most ways, it's just annoying to see any self-righteous display by a bunch of protesters devoid of any logic or understanding of history, and basing the entire thing entirely on emotion (the mentality of "he who shouts the meanest slogan loudest wins", historical facts be damned)...

And Japan right now has an insane level of political instability that resembles the South Korean political scene in the 1950s.

I wouldn't worry about it. Japan is quite stable. Everyone knows the real power is behind the scenes. People just get confused about which puppet they're going trot out next to read from a teleprompter. I would say there's zero risk whatsoever of a "right wing" reactionary party sweeping to power. Unless you actually consider the LDP to be "right wing".

My conclusion: Japan and South Korea are the two idiots of East Asia like Lloyd and Harry from the movie, Dumb and Dumber.

That's a pretty simple way of looking at it... To me nation states are a bit more complex. I would say most of this is staged for political reasons, with the usual idiot segment of the public just believing whatever they're fed and reacting predictably. The difference (at least in my experience) is that on the Japan side, far fewer people give a damn and they're more likely to just roll their eyes at the mention of it than to get hostile or offended.

Hardly the most pressing issue Japan is facing at this point in time... but for what it's worth I can't say I blame people for inevitably getting annoyed by it. It started off as a small fad, but has kept getting pushed by the networks to the point where it's now overkill. Aside from a few middle-aged women, very few people actually like any of the Hallyu crap on tv, or want to listen to "ji ji baby baby" every single time they turn on the radio... I suppose there's also a political side to it, but again given to usual Korean attitude toward Japan, I can't really blame the Japanese for getting irked by it.

Still, hardly a serious issue in light of the Japanese government being a pack of inept fools, and nuclear mega-disasters taking place etc.
