Ok I know this might sound a little stupid, but it the last week I've mailed about 10 recruiters and none have got back to me. Can anyone think of any possible reason for this? I thought it my be something to do with my email but I'm receiving other mail fine, and nothing is in my junk filter.

Prior to this I'd received mail from a couple of other recruiters ok, but two have stopped contacting me and the other said they couldn't help me after I turned down a really crappy contract.

I believe this time to be a very busy season, most recruiters may be overloaded at the moment.

Did you sign up to any of the online resume based recruiters(ones where you fill out a online application before they contact you) if so you should have received an automated reply.

most important question is how long have you been waiting?

Yeah a couple were those online things. One of them got back to me (but over a week ago) the others I didn't get an automated reply. I think I'm going to wait until Korean office hours and make some calls. It's been a week now since I've heard from any recruiter, I've been signing up for about 2-3 a day since last monday.

BackRow - Pretty sure it's not my appearance thank you very much!

Let's see.

Middle of summer vacation (3rd week of July to 3rd week of August).

Public Schools are under duress (funding issues) and won't be signing anyone till it gets worked out.

Hagwans won't know fall enrollment numbers for a couple weeks yet so won't be hiring much at the moment.

Just your bad timing.

Make sure your photo is professional in appearance yet friendly (not your last holiday pic unless it shows you playing with a bunch of kids in a school type setting).

Make sure your cover letter is appropriate to the application and the grammar and spelling are correct.

Double check your resume for errors and make sure it is short (1-2 pages), clean (no errors) and correct (accurate and informative but not overly indulgent - most recruiters won't catch any fine nuances).

While I hope that you're right about bad timing, all the recruiters I applied to had advertised jobs the day I applied to them.

LOL... you must be American or a dreamer.

This isn't Kansas.

IF you have all your documents in hand they will start to answer you as soon as the GEPIK debacle irons itself out and hagwans figure out whether or not their enrollments will go up as a result.

If you do NOT have all your documents in hand they will continue to ignore you.

Ok cool, I have my documents. What is it that's going on with GEPIK?

Thanks for all your help.

the provincial government cut their funding so they may not be renewing people's contracts and they won't be hiring any new teachers till March. This effectively took 2000 jobs off the market for this month.

After hagwans see what the result is (if their enrollments go up as NETs don't get renewed or hired for public schools) and how many NETs are "in country and available" they will finalize their recruitment numbers and decide whether to hire locally (cheaper to get a transfer than buy a fresh airline ticket) or from abroad.

Mostly true but don't give hagwons so much credit for thinking ahead. Most of them just grab whatever warm body with a foreign face they can shove into a classroom to briefly satisfy the mothers for this month.

No credit given to hagwan bosses having any foresight.

My statement was more to the point of, "Hagwans don't hire on spec". They will wait till the enrollments are up and then scramble to fill ASAP positions.

I dont think it's just you.

I am signed with GEPIK for the next year and I am waiting and watching.

I have kept several recruiters on the side just in case such an implosion would happen (after GEPIK stopped renewing teachers after March).

I was getting several emails a week about openings from 2 of the recruiters until the news about GEPIK cuts happened.

Now its crickets with those 2 companies.

Its possible that they're already being bombarded with teachers looking to move from Gyeonggi to fill those "undesirable" positions down south.

Oh, and like Tom said, this is vacation time for a lot of Koreans.

How many recruiters are you using? Just when I think I've heard of them all someone tells me about a new one so I'm sure you could find another one to work with.
