America is much larger and more important than Canada and I can say from personal experience that there are just as many Canadians who know next to nothing about the US. |

You know it's almost perverse the way Canadians thrive on American ignorance regarding Canada. The last Canadian I worked with tried to trip me up on a few simple questions regarding Canadian politics, and looked not happy but disappointed when I was able to answer her questions. |

Do they claim to go to *by far* the *greatest* universities on earth (where you you can actually get in and do OK if your parents are rich and well-connected; i.e. the Ivy League)? |

I went to what is considered to be one of the best two or three schools in Canada, and often met kids who had no idea where California was until someone reminded them they watch the OC. |

I don't think it's particularly relevant to Canadians either, but it's not fair to crap on Americans for not knowing stuff about Canada when Canada's best educated can't answer similar questions about the United States. |

Did you make it to the part where he explained that Canada has 65 minutes hours for a total of 20 hours per day?
I'm all for stupid shows only showing the stupidest answers that people will believe temporarily only because they are on TV, but believing that is pretty far from "not knowing stuff about Canada". |

It's the arrogance of Americans, insulated from the rest of the world, who think the Ivy League is far and away the best set of schools and that nothing in Canada or Europe can even come close. |

Its pretty clear Harvard et al are the best universities in the world. However, as you have to be truly exceptional, wealthy or have a convincing sob story to attend who cares.
I think the British Uni system and the French Grand Ecole system is the best for students. Whilst you still have to be highly capable the financial barriers are surmountable, therefore you dont have to rely on winning very competitive scholarships. Means tested government funding also helps.
Despite its small size Oxbridge, London Uni's and the ancient universities of Scotland make the UK a research powerhouse. With admission to the top uni's being a realistic goal for many students. |

Sorry, I went to the supposed Harvard of Canada, and though my classmates were highly intelligent, the investment in education wasn't nearly on par with what you get at an Ivy. While I think my classmates in university were extremely bright, the smallest class sizes anyone ever got were about thirty students, compared to my friends who went to ivies and had eight student classes taught by the guys whose articles I was reading. I had some profs who were fairly huge in their respective fields, but my classes were generally so huge that even when making an effort to get to know these professors (which I did), it was hard for them to really get to know your mind. |

Yeah, we're just imagining that American is the wealthiest and most influential country in the world that has invented far more things in modern history than any other country. How arrogant  And America is less insulated from the rest of the world than Canada, actually. Plenty of 'retarded' Canadians out there as well (and one of them is posting in this thread it seems).
As for McGill or whatever, never even heard of it till you dragged it into the thread. Looks like a decent place, but utterly blown out of the water by Harvard. Like comparing the Toledo Mud Hens to the New York Yankees.
