So I'll be graduating later this year with a Masters (Education - Primary School), and am considering returning to South Korea to spend a year or two teaching. I've taught in a hagwon in the past, but would obviously be looking for something that paid a little better and offered better hours/vacation.

Just wondering what type of positions I should be looking for, and how significantly obtaining CELTA would improve my prospects.

Thanks!

Why S. Korea, specifically?

A CELTA will not help you hardly at all in S. Korea considering your previous qualifications. CELTA is an interesting course if you want to to ESL teaching to adults for the rest of your career (even for part of it) but you'll find plenty of work all over the world with a M. Ed.

IF you are in Korea (fly here at your own risk and on your own dime) you can look for university jobs.

If you want airfare taken care of look for a Public School job, private (k-12) school or a hagwan (after school language academy).

The CELTA (as in the specific brand of TESOL certification) won't make any difference in Korea.

If you are from the UK then look at Europe as an option (where the CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) actually means something).

Thanks for the info!

I'm Canadian, not European, and just enjoyed my time in South Korea previously -- I'm not dead-set on it though, I'm pretty open to traveling elsewhere. I just figured that with the low-cost of living, it would be well worth it if I could find a job with a decent salary.

Still might end up just returning to Canada, just weighing out my options at this point.

Look for "international schools" through out Asia.

Pay and benefits are much better than you will get as an "ESL" teacher.
