I want to buy a new bed. The one I have here that my school gave me is basically a crib, it creaks and pops when you move around on it, the mattress is rock-hard, and it's slightly smaller than a twin, which, causes my 6-foot tall build to be very uncomfortable.

What are my choices for buying a bed? I can only assume that GMarket has the best prices, but buying a bed without at least sitting on it seems worrisome. I know I'd like a queen, and space isn't an issue.

Second, what is the deal with buying a new bed and moving it? I have no car or way to transport it, is a moving service generally included in this kind of deal?

What do I do with the old bed and how will I get rid of it?
What do I do when I move out of this place and want to take my bed with me? Buy some cheap and crappy crib for 70,000 won like I'm sleeping on right now?

Basically, most of my concerns fall into the "how am I supposed to move stuff and replace the bed when I move" category. Thanks, friends.

You could buy a new bed online, but as you noted it can be dangerous without being able to test it first. You don't want to buy something unless you can be sure it will be more comfortable than what you have now.

The other option is to go to a furniture store and try some out before you buy. You'll pay more than online but at least you'll know exactly what you're getting. Delivery within the local area is always included in the price. If you want to save money going to a used furniture store is always an option as well.

As for how to get rid of the old bed... You can call up a recycling center or used furniture store and tell them you have a bed you want to get rid of. If they think it's worth anything they might give you a few thousand won for it, but at the very least they'll haul it away for free. If you simply want to trash it, go to your dong office and tell them you want to throw away a bed. They'll sell you a sticker for about 10,000 won or so. Stick that on the bed and dump it wherever the trash is picked up outside of your building. Someone will come and take it away within a few days.

Having said all that, you said your school provided the bed. Are you sure they won't want it back when you're finished working for them? Might be wise to talk to them about it before tossing it away. Who knows, if your school is nice they might buy a new one for you if you tell them how uncomfortable it is (wouldn't count on it, but it's worth a try).

If you move in the future you can hire a moving truck to move the bed (and anything else you have).

Thanks for the advice. I think it's probably also a good idea to talk to my boss about assisting me in the process.

As I said, I wouldn't mind buying another cheap-o bed for this place once I move out with my boss's permission. Surely I can't imagine them saying no to me wanting a new bed. I know that some of the other teachers at my school have queen sized beds, so I think it's happened before.

Don't forget this step lol. I almost got in a fist fight with the security guard at my old place when I took my old bed down to the trash without first clearing it with the building.

Some officetels will also take care of the disposal for you if you give them the money to give to the recycling trucks.
