I'm having what I think is a large amount of problems securing a contract (25 applications, ~5 responses, 2 interviews which were canceled at the last minute). I can only assume that something is getting in my way. As I'm an English major, hold a TESOL certificate, and have 3 years experience tutoring and TAing English, I know it's not my qualifications.
My assumption is that most schools see my Japanese name and write me off as a non-native English speaker.
Are there any schools/recruiters out there that are a little more color blind? |

Public schools...I myself have been working in one and over the years I have seen all sorts of people hired (gyopos, vietnamese americans, japanese americans etc etc)
koreaconnections.net, Korvia and Korea-horizons are quite reliable.
And with your qualifications (Eng major, TESOL) and experience your pay will be higher than a crapwon to start with....though hiring season for PS is just about finished. You coud luck out though as inevitibly there will be those who don`t come to orientation and pull out last minute leaving recruiters scrambling to find someone.
Good luck OP |

GEPIK isn't really hiring. Try another program or another country. |

Why not go to Japan? Koreans are not very crazy about Japanese people, and there is a glut on the market. I love Japanese people and Japanese Americans, but I am not Korea and some are prejudiced. They don't mind Korean-Americans. They used to not like them to teach, but they are in much higher demand. I am sure you're an awesome guy. I'd hire you if I could. I feel for you... |

I would go to Japan to teach, but the job market there seems even more saturated than the Korean one. From the looks of it, getting a job there will be effectively impossible until I get my MA. Of course, after I get my MA, I'm definitely going to try to get a job in Japan. |
