A Korean-American wanted for two counts of attempted homicide in the United States was captured in Seoul after running an English-language academy under a false identity.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on Monday, the 33-year-old fugitive, identified by his surname Kim, has been wanted by Los Angeles police since 1997.

He is suspected of shooting at two members of a Mexican gang which had been in conflict with a Filipino gang he belonged to in May 1997.
Kim, then 17 years old, fled to Korea in July that year.
In Korea, he acquired the ID of another man surnamed Lee who emigrated to the U.S., with help of relatives. He got a driver�s license and passport with the fake ID and taught English at private institutions called hagwon.
In December 2008, he opened an institute for students preparing for the SAT, an entrance examination for U.S. colleges and universities, in Seoul�s southern district of Gangnam.
Kim also faked a college diploma, posing as a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles.
According to the Seoul police, Kim�s hagwon ran classes for only a small group of pupils from affluent families in the area. The enrollment fee was 1 million won a month at the lowest.
Police officials said Kim face charges of forgery of private documents and the violation of a law governing the management of private educational institutions. Police also sought an arrest warrant for the person jointly running the hagwon with him.
If the U.S. authorities request his extradition, they will fully cooperate, the police said.

This is a big story on the Korean TV news. BTW, how did they catch him? Does anyone know?

It does make you wonder about many of those other " high class" hagwons. At least it should. |

Presumably this guy was here on an F-series visa, but I'm sure us E-2 holders will be feeling the repercussions.  |

this is what he doesn't want.
if convicted in Korea for those other offenses he will just do a few months in jail.. if extradited, BYE BYE!! he is screwed! |

Another article said that the police received a tip and tested his fingerprints that they got from the US. |

Of course, why not? Although, I think the F-4 might not be handed out like candy in the near future. |

I think korea will be forced to loosen restrictions on immigration in the coming decade..simply out of demographic need. |
