This is a big story on the Korean TV news. BTW, how did they catch him? Does anyone know?
Quote: |
Kim fled to Korea that July and began living under someone elses name starting in 1998. With the help of a relative in Korea, Kim was able to forge a passport and a drivers license using a resident registration number belonging to an acquaintance, surnamed Lee, who had moved to the United States when he was young and no longer needed the number.
Using his new identity, Kim traveled abroad 34 times until his arrest, police said.
|
He passed through Korean Immigration at least 34 times! Good thing they are cracking down on those E2 teachers. (Sarcasm)
Quote: |
In 2002, Kim began working as an English teacher in the Gangnam area until he set up his own hagwon in 2008 in ritzy Apgujeong with a partner, identified as Kang, 36. Kang and Kim had grown close from working as English teachers together in other institutions.
Kim and Kangs hagwon was advertised as specializing in the SAT Reasoning Test, even though neither attended college.
Kim was found to have only a high school degree, police said, and forged his academic record to say that he had graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles, or UCLA.
Police also filed an arrest warrant for Kang for forging his academic record. Kang claimed to have graduated from San Diego State University.
The two also face charges for illegally hiring unregistered teachers who do not have proper certification.
Police said Kim may be extradited to the United States.
|
Since 2002?
It does make you wonder about many of those other " high class" hagwons. At least it should.

Expect any backlash from this?
|
He was a hagwon owner, not just a teacher. |

It seems as though they care more about the credential forgery than the murder. |

It was a filipino who was identified by a korean. There will be little backlash against us. Now if he was white, we'd all have to go through a second round of background checks and lineups. lol |

The only thing he is guilty of in the eyes of Korean authorities is his forgery and tax evasion. He hasn't been convicted of anything in the U.S. yet; he is merely accused. |

Don't worry, they'll blame whitey somehow.
Must have been a bad influence or something. |

It's all America's fault. The hagwon owner is from the USA where there's a black president who has been accused of forging his birth certificate. Barack Obama has been a bad influence on this hagwon owner, and Korean Immigration will need to ask all black teachers in Korea to get their birth certificates apostilled. |
