Also how common are bad Thai schools? Ubiquitous. If you get a job with a private Thai school, as soon as the beautiful Thai students figure out that you're going to make them think or work, they refuse to go to class and you get fired. So when you do go to teach in Thailand make sure you smile a lot (because a smile is an important thing in Thailand just like it says in the Pimsleur language tapes Rolling Eyes ) and don't ever make them work or give them a test where any student makes less than an A. Actually better yet unless you want a Thai girlfriend or are an academician interested in Thailand, avoid Thai schools all together. The system is excruciatingly arrogant and dishonest. The private schools are probably much more dishonest than anything you get in Korea. Not just my opinion, but the opinion of quite a few professionals with teaching licences, that I know, that teach in private schools. Parochial schools are brutal and pay is extremely low, but you're not likely to get fired.
