| I have a new and better job opportunity in the states. I have signed a contract with a Korean hagwon, my passport with the Visa E-2 is in hand, and my flight has been booked. I am supposed to leave August 24th and my contract begins September 1st. Am I able to cancel on this now? If so, what are the steps I need to take to ensure I am still marketable with South Korea for the future? |

Just man up and tell them. There will be no repercussions if you try and work in S. Korea again as long as you either A) wait a year for the visa to expire, or B) they cancel the visa. I am almost 100% positive they will do B anyway. |

Call the school, ignore their threats, and tell them that you are not going to S.Korea. Hang up the phone and do NOT answer any future calls from them.
Repercussions = none, other than the fact that since you have an E2 in your passport you will not be able to get another one till it expires. The threats your employer is going to make are meaningless (no jurisdiction for enforcement).
