It's more than the free lunch shenanigan. |
Maybe its because they've realised that most Koreans aren't actually learning anything. Something is seriously wrong with the system.
The number of 18-20 yr old Koreans who cannot even offer the most basic, basic, english conversation is scary. Or better put.. its disgusting. And this after probably spending 10 or 15 years(!) in English classes. |

The Ministry of Education plans to waste money on hiring professional security guards, on screening parents within a school's premise, on a longterm project of providing laptops for kids, on better field trips, .
People here forget the fact that the current government is very right-wing and is willing to blame the leftist free school lunch policy for everything with the help of the Chojoongdong (Korea's right-wing media cartel). It's a shoddy blame game on the political level.

THIS. What my fellow church member, a teacher in her mid 30s who is planning to quit this year, said something that was brutally honest. The public school system's biggest competitors are private tutoring and the internet; and the public schools are losing this sore battle. |

2 more things.
One, the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics would technically reduce the nationwide public education budget before 2018. Two, the after-school programs (방과 후 학교) in public schools are now steadily run by private education companies. The funny thing is, those private companies often give bribery to the principals and to the VPs. |
