(CNN) -- Apple won a significant victory on Tuesday in its campaign against Samsung Electronics over alleged intellectual-property infringements.
Samsung has been ordered to remove the Galaxy Tab 10.1, a touchscreen tablet computer that runs Google's Android software, from stores in Europe as part of an ongoing legal dispute between its creator and Apple, which makes the iPad. |

Korea is on the list as well. I hope Apple are ready for some serious backlash if an injunction stops Samsung from selling the tab on home turf. The fickle Koreans won't appreciate Samsung being bullied. |

Well if it is the case that Samsung "slavishly copied", it really isn't them being bullied by Apple, more like a wake-up call..."GET A CLUE AND DO YER OWN THING FOR ONCE!" (includes ripping off other people's ideas and slapping it all together in a way that hasn't been done before) |

Do some reading before offering what is clearly an uninformed opinion. It may help you separate your K-bashing from the actual issue. |

still, Apple does want to piss off Samsung to much, as samsung controls patents which Apple needs for it's Iphones and pads. |

I don't think you can get much more confrontational than blocking another company's product from being sold in other countries.
In other words, for now Apple is in the driver's seat, and Samsung can only whine and yelp like a K-student.

Whatever Apple copied, they finally put together and marketed things like the I-Phone before anyone else got it out there. They seem to have a knack for coming up with the goods before anyone else. Don't think you can really say this for Samsung, and even Samsung high-level people have come out and said that Korean companies have to start thinking for themselves instead of just following the pack.
Oh well, you can believe whatever you want, Apple's had no problem burying Samsung in Europe, so obviously the patent judges there who study these cases in far more detail than you and I are also sadly "uninformed" |

If you look back, you will see that LG had a phone - the KE850 Prada - that bested the original iphone for it's design. So much for your 'they can only copy' idea.

Very becoming.

Apple copied? I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you aren't a total idiot, just inarticulate.
Following the pack?
Apple is not "the pack" (Samsung is #2, you should know) and for all of the company's innovation in design, they use over-the-counter hardware, some of which is made by Samsung. Seriously, do you know what Samsung have been doing for the last 10 years in any detail? Do some research beyond the smartphone area and tell me there is no innovation going on in the company.
As for the greater discussion, I have been following this quite closely and while you are quite right in saying that I don't know as much as a patent judge, I am far from uninformed on this issue. Trying now to save yourself from the spiteful tone of your initial post, which rapidly descended into off-topic hate, complete with CAPS and all, is laughable. I have never stated that the judges were wrong for issuing the injunction, so don't try to falsely set me up there either.
Your little K-bashing agenda is pathetic and most certainly only the tip of the bitter iceberg you inhabit. Enjoy your won. |

Samsung is big enough that it can go into the "innovative" sphere. That doesn't mean it should.
I think it's found a great niche, 'almost as good for somewhat cheaper'.
Not every company has to be Apple, nor should they strive to be. Samsung simply lacks the name and history of Apple to turn itself into Apple.
Let's turn the nail on the head, all the people that bad mouth Samsung for not inventing things, put it this way- Samsung delivers affordable products and offers decent enough competition to keep Apple honest.
You say you're company's great because it's first in breakthroughs? Fine. I'll say this company is great because it's more affordable to average Joes. Or in other words- You invented the car, great. But Henry Ford is great because he put one in every garage.
There is nothing wrong with producing non-inventive but cheaper goods.
Life isn't a computer game, you can't just throw money at R&D and expect to come out ahead and turn a profit.
It's like saying Cadillac is better than Buick or even Chevy. Different market focuses. |

No one is denying Samsung's innovation in hardware. I also liked the design of the Samsung clamshell phones they had 8 years ago - looked to me much better than the Nokia phones that were so common in other countries - so they can innovate in design if they choose to.
But the Galaxy phone purposely imitates the design of the iPhone. Show me any other cellphone company that had the balls to produce a product with a near-identical look and feel to a rival company's flagship product.
Most companies like to come up with an identity for their own brand. And if they want to take advantage of another company's success they buy the rights or buy the company - like BMW buying up Austin and only then producing the new look Mini. It just wouldn't occur to most companies to shamelessly rip off someone else's design, but Samsung has gone right ahead. |

Couldn't agree more and do not want to defend Samsung in this (I never did; only against allegations that Korean companies are non-innovators), but then let's consider what we are talking about here; a cell phone. How many shapes can there be? Triangular? Square? Sharp corners? How many colors? Is black patentable? With touchscreen technology, how many physical buttons are necessary, making the face of the item essentially button free, save the main power, etc. Grid icons have been around since computing. Touchscreen interfaces have been around a long time too. For example, the film "Minority Report" used ideas of multi-touch gestures (pinching, rotate, etc) before the iPhone appeared. Should they sue Apple? They could have, after all, patented an idea. MS Surface...in for trouble?
Ugh. Too deep an issue to regurgitate here. The patent system is a mess, that is certain. |
