I want to put in a good word for Korean animal doctors.

The one I've been dealing with for several years is one of the most kind-hearted souls I've ever met. His small clinic is filled with badly damaged reclamation projects. Feral cats & stray dogs hit by cars, he takes them in, makes them well, & finds them homes. You walk in the door & you've never met such a bunch of nicely-behaved critters, many of them missing limbs. He's especially proud of a wild cat thats taken 6 months of care to overcome total paralysis & is just now starting to move its legs again.

I took in my old & very sick cat yesterday. She's done. Thorough tests showed she's experiencing multi-organ failure, has a week maybe two. I think at this point most western vets would just say lets put her down. But she's not in pain & her eyes are still clear & he says he'll look after her till its her time. Hospice care! I can check in on her any time. He refuses to take any money for this.

I'm sad, of course, but also very impressed.

Where is he based? That sounds like a great place, and much better than my local vet, who roughly jabbed a needle into my rat's tumor without giving him some sleep meds first.

I would like to know this as well. My cat is 14 years old and when her time comes, I want the best care possible.

NYC-Gal- where did you get the rat? I have tried to find rats for 4 years here, but aside from mice, haven't had any luck... Please PM me- new account so can't PM yet. thanks.

My Korean friend found a website and ordered them for me. I'll send her a message and ask where she found it, then let you know.

As for supplies, use this site under the section for ferrets. Rats and ferrets use the same cages and toys.

I checked under rats, and it seems pretty empty. It was nearly 2 years ago, so perhaps they're out. I'd recommend having a Korean friend call and ask if baby rats are available. Mine were just amazing.

They're pretty smart, and can be quite affectionate. They love interactive games, and need enrichment or they get bored and depressed. They're pretty social, so it's best to get 2. They're also really clean when pets. They've been bred for a few hundred years now, so domesticated rats aren't as sensitive to light and sound, while their wild counterparts avoid it.

Well, just to put some closure on my tale.

Vet phones an hour ago, says come now. Sure enough, my cat's in her last moments, unresponsive, quivering. A shot of anesthetic, a second shot to stop her heart.

He asks what I want to do with her body. I dont know. His clinic backs onto a little woodsy spot. He indicates a big old tree & hands me a shovel.

RIP Juju.
