I'm looking for some recommendations for lower and upper intermediate text books for the head of my school in the UK.
I suggested Headaway but it seems really expensive. Can anyone suggest one that has decent material, not too dry or repetitive and is reasonably priced and also has a lot of units packed in there?
Also, do you know what the best channels are for purchasing for the best price?
Thanks |

I do purchase for our school but we are talking about orders (of different titles / subjects / levels) of some 15,000 books per year.
IF you are talking any kind of volume (not simple orders of 10-20 books) then contact your local publisher/distributor.
They will come to you, provide samples and prices (comparable to what book stores pay).
I like Oxford University Press for ESL/EFL and also subject matter books for our bilingual program.
They have a wide range of books at all levels and ages to choose from.

I'm a bit surprised. Usually the purchase of textbooks is a pretty involved process, and usually given-over to a committee. Am I to understand someone just handed you the job and you are trying to do it by yourself?
Best Wishes,

Recommending is not actually buying/ordering a whole supply of books for a school. You could have several people looking for recommendations. Then most likely a committee would decide from those resources recommended. |

Where are the students from? You mentioned the business was in the UK, most books have some cultural bias which may or may not be appropriate for students learning English. |

Headway stinks.
Take a look at Touchstone by Cambridge. The supporting materials are excellent. |

Age group? Nationalities? What are the target aims of these students? What skills do they need to work on most? Communicative/receptive-based? Task-based, grammar-based, EAL etc? |
