Yep. The Black album. I remember buying the cd and IIRC seeing Double Impact in the theatre. |

Pretty good year for rock and metal fans.
Van Halen got the Grammy for best hard rock album for "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and Guns & Roses' Use Your Illusion got nominated. AC/DC were on their Razor's Edge tour and Alice In Chains was in the mix. Hair bands were on the way out. |

Enter Sandman was banned from most G.I. bars in the R.O.K. before the summer was out. Too much damage every time it was played...

Wasn't that the album cover Spinal Tap released because the original Sniff the Glove cover was considered too 'sexy'? |

The black album was the one that got me to stop listening to metalica. Fortunately I discovered prog rock at that time so I had something to gravite to. |

May I recommend a Norwegian band called Magic Pie? http://www.magicpie.net/
Perhaps my favourite prog rock album this year. |

not sure if I like the keyboards one magic pie's slightly mad. the rest was okay. have to give it a more of a listen to in the future. The keyboards in th first half of the song remind of Emerson off of ELP. |

why did you have to say "mainstream" in the subject line? |

An album that sold over 20 million copies in the US alone and was on a major label is not mainstream?
Regardless, pretty terrible album, guess they were really out of stolen Mustaine and Exodus riffs by then. |

Metallica jumped the shark with the black album.
Sure there were some good riffs and it had a big sound, but it just didn't ring true anymore.
They seemed to be grasping for something they weren't quite sure about.
I was a huge Metallica fan until this.
Enter Sandman is a steaming turd - stupid subject, childish lyrics that make me roll my eyes and groan. Ugh! |
