This article mentions the Korean government paying the author's tuition.

One interesting observation I have made, and when I say interesting I mean only for people like me, the Korean word for weekend ju mal contains the components week and end of a time period. The Chinese word jo mo is nearly identical and uses the same Chinese characters, but it has no meaning in Chinese apart from weekend. Could this mean that weekend is a Korean word, written with Chinese characters, which was adopted by the Chinese?
Since the Korean government is paying my tuition, I will say, Yes, it is." |
Has anyone here (on this site) gotten a full or partial scholarship? How did that happen? What were your experiences with the program? |

Many people have mentioned that universities will give big scholarships to foreigners simply to increase the amount of foreigners (especially western ones) attending their university.
Your best bet is to just contact whatever university you want to attend and see what they can offer you. |

As far as getting a schoalrship to study Korean, most students who are fortunate enough get in on the "NIIED" program. This is a Korean government scholarship program that will pay airfare, health insurance, tuition costs for a foreign student to study in a university Korean language program for up to a 2 years, then pay full tuition for that student to enter a degree-seeking program..and also give them about 900,000 Korean won for living expenses.
That NIIED program is BY FAR the best public scholarship option out there. Individual universities may have exchange relationships with foreign universities and willing to allow those foreign students tro come here and learn Korea and do research, but those are a case by case basis.
As was mentioned, most, if not all private universities in Korea will typically give anywhere from 30% - 100% scholarship to foreign students depending on the program and university. However that is for undergrad/grad work, not really for Korea Language study. It may be possible, but highly unlikely you would get a scholarship to study Korean without some outside factor. |

It's 1 year of language plus 6 months if you do not meet requirements. If you do not meet requirements after 1 year and a half you are kicked out. |
