I used to have a saved cut-and-paste answer to this sort of thread, and it went something like this:
USE ALL RECRUITERS AND PLASTER YOUR RESUME ON EVERY BOARD YOU CAN FIND. THE BEST RECRUITER WINDS UP BEING THE ONE THAT CAN PUT YOU INTO THE RARIFIED JOB THAT WON'T GET YOU SCREWED OVER IN SOME WAY OVER YOUR FIRST YEAR.
AGAIN, STOP ASKING ABOUT RECRUITERS. USE ANY AND ALL OF THEM! |

ESL Seoul was good for me - and I say that after being one of the people last year that was dropped by SMOE at the last minute after having signed a contract.
ESL Seoul is connected to Oxford UP, Korea.
I had good training and experience in TESOL already, so my experience might be different than what someone with no teaching experience or training might get....maybe...
But, compared to my experience with recruiters and looking for a job on my own back in the day (1996-2000), ESL Seoul is an org I can recommend... |
Their web site is now dead. |

I rest my case, and I repeat:

I sorta like the first paragraph but the second is a recipe for disaster. |

Eh.... I would like to add an "amen" to that.
I know that the "old timers" here probably think a lot of these questions are lame or innane and I understand that. But, try and look at things from another POV, please? And I will use myself as an example.
After all of the crap about WONDERLAND I have become a bit more careful. As a result, when I had a call from the PRC about NDI I was sharp enough to do some research and realized what I would be getting into with that chain. Had someone not done some Thread necro re: Wonderland I might have not been as careful. How about we don't go TOO hard on people who are still asking about the basics, ne?
Best Wishes,
Bruce |

Too true. People new to the teaching abroad experience definitely need to check, double check, and then tripple check any potential employer.
The OP's question was more related to recruiters, though. I believe that for public school jobs, there are only a small number of certified recruiters so choices are necessarily limited. For all other jobs, however, I'd still have to go with the original advice, that being to use them all. Then it's a matter of checking out the employment options that come your way. |
