For those of you who read my previous posts, i don't need to explain again why i have been asking for a release letter from my unbelievably horrible school. It has flat out been denied.
I visited with the Labor Office, and they could offer nothing but the name of an NGO, and suggested i take the hagwan owner to court. I visited immigration and they said the only way to get a new E2visa is by getting a release letter, or having the owner come down and cancelling it.
He will not.
Today i went back to the hogwan to try and work out some way of getting them to let me change schools.
They had my pay waiting for me for the two weeks of hell i endured working there.

They also wanted me to sign a paper that said i was fired because i threatened to cause the hogwan to lose students and that the hogwan did everything possible to accomodate me.

Apparently the other foreign teacher (who was just hired 3days ago)relayed a comment I made about the stress affectig my teaching energy. My exact word were 'I don't know how long i can keep working in these conditions before i starts affecting my teaching.'
He told the director that 'i was going to cause students to leave'....and he swore those were my words.
I never thought a fellow foreigner could be so rotten.
The director has been coddling this guy since he arrived, and basically making my situation intolerable.

I refused to sign the paper due to....um...THE LIES! I kept in my anger and asked them one more time if they would do the right thing and give me a release.

The thing that makes this all more screwy, is that the i have never even met the owner of the school. The name on the contract is not the guy who has fired me.
All i want to do is cancel my visa with this school, i wonder if this name thing is a way to do it?

People are people, regardless of race or nationality. Unless you knew the person prior to coming to Korea, they are all suspect.

I really don't think that foreign have some special bond between them. I'm not going to stick my neck out for anyone on the basis of skin color. Other princples without a doubt but not merely skin color

Sounds like Korea working you over, The Eye. Some people can hack it, others can't. I had an awful situation at first but I simply took the money and quit. That's what you're doing I guess? Just take the money and go to another country and come back or go back to your home country if possible. Don't worry about release letters and all that crap...I never did.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I think the best thing you could do is follow Shawner88's advice. Either go to Japan and come back as a tourist, then you can work illegally I suppose, or go to China to find work, or just give up and go home. I'm not trying to be rude, Korea can be hard. Not everyone gets lucky here.

I may have to follow my own advice soon as well. Embarassed

If I don't find a decent job, I may as well head for Canada.

Good Luck

I agree that good jobs where the owner treats people fairly are fading fast in this country. I cant wait to go back to canada where at least human rights are followed. My boss thretened to fire me and cancel my visa yesterday.

He thinks it's only about money and that all foreigners will stay no matter the situation. I told him he was wrong and laughed at him about canceling my visa as it takes weeks to process that paperwork

So, the owner - who'd never met you before - automatically had a hate-on for you once you arrived. But that same owner, who'd never met Mr. New Teacher before, "coddled" him right off the bat.

That's strange. Just sayin'.

How is that a violation of your human rights?

The eye,

CLG and others in here said it right, why would a foreigner support another foreigner without knowing him?
Just because we share a skin color?
Be serious here....

What your co-worker did is rather nasty and your situation seems to be unpleasant.

How is that LOR coming along?

I think there is a distinction made in the post between director and owner. I'm not sure.

By "weeks", you mean he has to go to the Immigration office, sign a form, and then you have 14 days to exit the country or find a new sponsor.

the others are right, the owner has never been seen, its the director who has cause the shit.

As for foreigners stickingup for each other... i never expected such. Outright lies, though? How can someone slide so low?

To be honest I have little time for most other foreigners here... nor loyalty.. except for the ones I genuinely like (a small percentage).
I wouldn't lie about them to cover my own ass though..

eye: it seems you have few options now. Taking your boss to court is a lengthy, costly, and hazardous/risky operation in this country. It doesn't seem like the labor board will enforce your letter of release...
To my knowledge there is hope, because you have not yet registered for alien registration. this means that if they scrap your E2, you are able to find a new employer here.
If you believe many posters on here, its quite possible for you to get a new job here and a new E2, with a little footwork.
As for your current situation, you've clearly hit a brick wall, just get the hell out of there and clear your head.
