|
|
I went to the immigration office 2.5 weeks ago, lady told me that my arc would be mailed in 2 weeks. Today, i asked my director if it had arrived. He then informs me that there are new rules in place and that it will take another month for the ARC to come?
Since when is this the case? Everyone that I've heard from said it took them 2 weeks, and even the person at immigration said it would take that long. Now its another month? I've already lived here for an entire month without a phone or internet, and it makes it very difficult to live a social life without those things.
What's the deal? |

Your director is holding on to it for some reason. |

Most (if not all by now) immigration offices no longer process and make the ARC on-site. They are done at a central location and the processing time is 4-8 weeks (depending on demand).
If they kept your passport when you applied you should have it (passport and ARC) back quickly.
If they returned your passport to you when you applied for the ARC then you can expect a long wait.

I'm really annoyed to hear that they're doing this. Considering that there are so many daily life type situations that are either difficult or impossible without an ARC card or number, why make people wait longer? |

A huge nuisance but if it helps stop the problems of Koreans blaming foreigners of crimes because of how easily the old ARC could be forged then this is a good thing. |

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! THAT's good for a laugh.
If you haven't been here before, try asking for your alien registration number. I don't know if they'd give it to you at the desk/have it, but it's worth a shot.
If you know your alien registration number, combine that with your passport and you should be fine without the actual card.
Granted, a lot of places will still be a pain in the butt without the card, but generally, all they need your card for is the id number. |

No kidding. How are people supposed to function normally without one, especially when you first arrive and need it for opening accounts? |

I guess my recent visa change has coloured my glasses in a shade of rose.
Luckily I have a Korean drivers licence which has my ID number on it and can be used in place of an ARC in most cases. I pity the noob's though. |
