It seems more like a guy movie. Would young chicks like it too?

Yes. It's a fun movie. Certainly not a "guys" movie. Very few guns and only ape nudity.

I found it a bit disappointing, myself.

I dunno Zack, don't you worry your wife-slave will get a funny idea and try to escape captivity?

It was all right. It was worth 2 hours and 8,000 won. I just saw it and while I'm not gushing about it, it was worthwhile. Some of the references to the source material come off as a little heavy handed and cheesy, though.

It wasn't a "guy's movie" at all.

I like the Planet of the Apes movies (even the Marky-Mark one from 2001). I thought "Rise of..." was going to be really good, but all-in-all, it was a CGI crap fest that would make George Lucas jizz in his pants.

If you liked the Star Wars: Phantom Menace CGI battle between the Gungans and the droids, you'll love the new Planet of the Apes.

If you like how the laugh tracks in sit-coms remind you when to laugh, you'll love the music score in the new Planet of the Apes. It feeds you the emotional cues that the CGI apes can't give.

It was pretty bad, but as my Korean co-worker says, "it's just my think" Smile

Loved the film myself. My only criticism was that they tried to blend Vancouver and San Francisco together. So, it seemed like the action took place in 1 city located in two separate countries.

More drama than action, MUCH BETTER acting and character development, dialogue, than the re-make of the original a decade ago.

I liked this prequel. It had LITTLE war mongering violent scenes of animal versus human, the battles coming in the last couple of minutes rather than half or three-quarters of the movie.

The movie TELLS A STORY, and shows underlying issues and a three-dimensional main character (without going 3D); it really is a cousin to the new Captain America film in that both movies are more about how things came to be and how people are affected.

if you're referring to "get your hands off of me you damn, dirty ape" I agree. I cringed a little too.

I went into this expecting very little after the Tim Burton BS ten years back. But this was great. It's always smart to start off a series with the Genesis of the story and I thought they did a great job. It obviously left itself wide open for a sequel next summer (I'm picturing some sort of mash up between the original Escape, Conquest and Battle For, where the apes assimilate into society and are seen wearing Chuck Taylors, driving SUVs and texting on Iphones)

I was a little disappointed that ,since I can't read hangul, I didn't get what the apes were saying to each other (although it was fairly obvious). Other than that I thought it was great.

as for the "CGI crapfest" comment I'd have to disagree. the CGI was tastefully done and didn't detract form a good story.

The 2001 movie stunk, IMHO. This one was pretty good, tho!

This is a good new planet of the apes show, but nothing like the originals nor as good as it could be. I just seen it at AMC's Mainstreet theater in Kansas City where you sit in huge rumble pack recliners and enjoy a really good angus beef cheeseburger. Despite being a science fiction, it doesn't get deeply involved in the subject in a highly intriguing intellectual level how sci-fi used to do, but is entertaining. It's good enough to feel like it's real, but just not as incredibly intense as it could be. The monkey moves are excellent. You have to wait to the very end for the movie to branch out of one single city to take it to a more interesting global level.
