Hi, I've got a question for those of you who mentioned you sent your FBI CBC request via Priority Mail (USPS not Korean).
The tracking info on the USPS website says they attempted to deliver my letter but no one was there to receive it, so now the status is the receiver has to schedule a redelivery.
I called the FBI and a woman there assured me (using the exact same quote to answer several of my questions) that someone goes to the post office several times each day to pick-up any letters. She couldn't check if my letter was actually picked-up, however, because it would be in the "security check" pile for a few weeks before it actually made it into the building.
So, that's a lot of background, but my question is: if you sent your letter Priority Mail, did the tracking say the letter was received by the sender or just delivered? Maybe I should send a second CBC request via FedEx or UPS so I don't loose a few weeks while my letter sits in the post office...

| I had the same situation. I was worried that it wouldn't get there. The next day my online tracking confirmed that it was delivered. You should be fine. It sits for a few weeks before they do anything with it. |

I sent in for my background check a few days before you did. Did you by chance include a return envelop or did they just send it regular mail? I'm wondering why I haven't received mine yet... |

I did include a return envelope but it wasn't for expedited shipping (FED EX/UPS), it was just a standard USPS envelope. I'm not sure if including a return envelope speeds up the process at all.
If a few more days go by it might be worth calling the FBI. They can look your check up by name and should at least be able to tell you if it has been processed or not. |

Actually, it's because I'm a certified teacher. Apparently, they just recently changed the law so that if you are a certified teacher, you do not need an FBI background check... which makes sense since you need a background check to get certified.
Just an FYI in case any of you who are waiting are certified. If so, contact your school and have them check into the new law. |

I sent mine on July 22nd as well. Credit card charged on August 1st though. and STILL waiting on it! |

| Just got mine back. I used apostille pros. From the day i mailed it from Korea to the day i got it back in Korea. It took me 2 months almost exactly. The apostille time only took one day. 250 bucks, but seemed well worth avoiding the hassles. |

I second this. The first time I sent my FBI check to be notarized, I sent it to the State Department by mail. They say it can take up to two months to process it, and my diplomas came back ripped and torn and without an apostille due to a typographical error.
The second time, I used an apostille service in Baltimore--it was quick and efficient, but did cost over $100. |

Depends on where you live. I was visiting CA and the station I contacted wanted $40! (UPS wanted $25.) I've had them done elsewhere for free. I'd just call your local station and ask. |

| Along these same lines, how early is too early to get the FBI background check? I won't be trying to get a job till July 2012, but if I get it back months early is it is big deal? |
