Anyone do this recently?

I'm studying at Sogang starting in September and won't be working any more. Everything is pretty much taken care of. Paid tuition, got all my student docs in order, wrapping things up at work, found a new (tiny) apartment, etc etc.

Anyhow, I called immigration today just to make sure I have everything together. The guy at immigration basically told me that my visa might be denied. Why? No real reason. He pretty much told me that it depends on the immigration official. What the f***? I tried to press further, but he wouldn't give me a straight answer. He just kept reiterating that while I have all the necessary documents and meet all of the requirements, it really depends on the person I deal with at immigration. How the f*** does this make any sense? Isn't there a set of guidelines that are supposed to be followed?

Anyhow... end rant. Has anyone done this in the last year? Just want to calm my nerves a bit. If it is denied, I have to leave the country and re-enter on a tourist visa. Makes no sense at all.
