<I couldn't edit the poll to add USA>
I don't want to go to some tropical island and sip margaritas all day and bake in the sun--although it could be relaxing. But I want to actually DO something while I'm on my honeymoon.
I've narrowed it down to 3 choices:
1. Greece
2. Italy (probably Venice)
3. Go back to America, see the family in Ohio for a day or two, then fly to Florida.
Which would you do, and which would be cheaper (airfare and expenses).
Thanks for the answers! |

I don't know about expenses. Like you, I have family in the US and obviously, that would make it much cheaper. I voted Greece because I haven't been there, but I have been to Italy (although it was many years ago), plus my hubby really wants to see Greece. |

Italy. Way more to do, better weather and sights, no recession and rioting, you'll get more for your money, better tourist industry and better food. Venice is awesome and I could spend a month there just walking around and hanging out.
Don't try to cram it all in- Korean tour guides always have you doing one thing and then another, you never get a chance to sit down and relax, you're always on the bus to another spot. Don't use a Korean one if at all possible. |

Yep. Cleveland, Ohio. The surrounding suburbs are one of the best places in the country. Anyone who lives there knows. And anyone who disses Cleveland probably has never been there and just repeats what others, who also have never been there, say.
Thanks for the responses. |

I hear Greece is pretty cheap now as they are in big trouble. It was already cheaper than Italy but even so, I would visit Italy instead. Venice is really expensive. But there are easily a dozen other cities and areas which worth visiting. Once you travel that far you better make the best out of it rather than staying in one city only. |

If it will be in summer, definitely go to Ohio or Michigan. They call it the Great Lakes region for a reason. Kelly's Island, Port Clinton, Sandusky Bay,Mackinaw, Bay City...maybe they don't sound glamourous, but if you want to relax in a heavenly place near the water, and perhaps visit some family nearby, a lot of happy marriages have begun in these places and you can hardly do better. |

I agree with the above posters, I loved Venice (I was too young to party, so it doesn't include that, if that's what you want to do). Florence was nice, but I didn't like Rome. Pompeii was eerily cool (but I have always loved ancient Greek and Roman history, so maybe just cuz I am a geek). Maybe I would like Rome more now that I am older? |

Yeah, I read travel articles pretty religiously and this is something I've heard many times since their economy crumbled. Seth Kugel, the author of the Frugal Traveler blog at the New York Times, just spent two months in the Mediterranean on a serious budget, so it might be worth looking through his posts for some ideas: http://frugaltraveler.blogs.nytimes.com/. |

No offense, but Cleveland is a dump. Now, the suburbs are quite nice. I agree. Who wants to kick it in a near rust belt of a place in Jan-Feb, though? Id rather be in a more temperate climate. Weather does matter to a lot of people. Most people have no choice and/or dont know any better. Look at all the Koreans who think this is the greatest place on earth.
If you really dont mind missing your family, then choose somewhere outside of Ohio. Go west of the Rockies and north of Vegas. Ive heard a hundred more people say what you said about Clevelands surrounding suburbs. By the way, Ohio has some of the best songs (of any state) written about it.
I grew up in DFW, TX during part of my youth. You can choose another synonym for dump if you like. So are a lot of other places. Im being very objective and really hope you dont take it personal. Maybe the other half has some suggestions. Were it up to me, Id be happy with Greece or Italy. Even though Ive seen those countries, Ive definitely seen more of the states comparatively. Corfu is quite nice for beaches. Athens and Thessaloniki are a change from the norm. The north of Italy is beautiful, specifically the northwest. Venice is expensive. I wasnt a fan of Roma, but there are a lot of interesting sites there.
Im sure youll have a lovely time wherever you go.
It aint where youre from. Its where youre at. |

I would like to go to Italy as there are various attractions to see, and more important many romantic villas for pleasure stay.
I like to stay at Appartamenti Italia |
