So Samsung claims that Apple did not invent the Ipad at all? It was in a movie years ago? People are starting to call BS on all this copying they are doing!!!
"Also cited in Samsung's defence is a scene from the 1970s British TV series The Tomorrow People which appears to depict a tablet computer."

What you may not know is that Apple's original designer/idea maker of the ipad was an extra in that movie when he was young.
What do you think about that? |

The Ipad is such a global success that it would be hard for any tablet designer to compete without "borrowing" a few ideas. There are a ton of tablets out there that may or may not have copied from Apple, but what Samsung have done wrong is to make one that is actually as good - if not better - than the Ipad.
Chairman Jobs is just doing what any good fascist would do and that is to take out the opposition. |

Kind have to agree with this. Apple wouldn't be doing all they can to block Samsung's pad unless they are really worried about the quality of it.
It will be interesting to see how big Samsung's war chest is. |

Of course Apple made the iPad......but they certainly didn't invent the tablet computer.....tablets were made by other companies before the iPad. |

Yes, and those other companies collectively sold less than 1 million units in 10 years.
How long did it take Apple to sell 1 million iPads? |

No argument here. Apple have made the best tablet to date.......although some say the Galaxy Tab is better in some areas.
Apple were able to do with the iPad what they did with the iPhone. Take an existing format using technology invented by others and make it sexy. Style it and market it in a way that makes it desirable to non-geeks......that's what Apple do. Very successfully. |

The entire patent system as it currently operates harms consumers. |

Pretty sure Star Trek had tabs before that 70's show. But an 'idea' and a computer are two very different things. |

All proceeds should go to the Roddenberry estate.
EDIT- So when is Apple going to get around to making the iCorder - The general scanning device based off of Star Trek's tricorder?
As for the phone lets call it what it is- A rip off of a rip off.

I hope Apple loses every single copyright suit they initiate. As others have noted, Apple has never been the first to make much of anything- not the first mp3 player, not the first smartphone, not the first tablet, not the first touchscreen personal computer. They've been most successful in product design and marketing, but for some reason they think they own the idea of anything rectangular with a touch screen and a menu button now.
Honestly, what shape would and placement of features (menu button, speakers, camera) would be sufficient for Apple? |

well those tabs on TV back in the 70's were made out of cardboard! and had no technology whats so ever in them.
Samsung is late the party again, and Korea does what it does best, rips off ideas and then brings them to market, just look at their cars in the past 10 years, they are all pretty much ripped off from the Japanese models.
Korean companies are happy to steal ideas then bring them to market and just pay the fines, much cheaper that way..
but it's not going well for them with the galaxy2 around the world though,.
banned sales in a lot of countries.. |

Well, they are not ALL ripped off from Japanese models; there are rip offs of a few other companies' models too...
Funny stuff from Urban Dictionary:
Hyundai:
Korean car company. Although many of their newer cars are reliable, their designs typically rip off of the other car company's cars.Hyundai also owns KIA, who also makes ripoff versions of other cars.
Hyundai logo = Honda Logo slanted
Accent = Ripoff of Honda Civic
Elantra = Styling is a mix of Honda Fit and Toyota Prius
Genesis = Ripoff of many foreign luxury cars
Genesis Coupe = Ripoff of Nissan 350Z
Sonata = Ripoff of Toyota Camry
Tiburon = Ripoff of Toyota Supra
Veracruz = Ripoff of Buick Enclave and Honda CRV.
Hyundai cars are known for having incredible fuel efficiency, but after the first 4 or 5 years the maintenance falls to shit and loses the performance it had just a few years earlier. This unfortunately causes these cars to have poor resale value. Having noticed this, the company started working harder on the cars, which are becoming more and more dependable with a longer life and are starting to maintain their value. (Similar story to Samsung, which is also a Korean company and now one of the largest electronic companies in the world)
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hyundai
So if Apple is suing Samsung, why didn't Honda ever sue Hyundai? Even the logo is almost exactly the same, just slanted a bit.
While the products are getting progressively better, from music to technology to cars, there's definitely a pattern of extremely blatant copying going on. It used to be that the Japanese were accused of copying, but they at least innovated and changed and stylized things quite a bit. Then the Koreans copied the Japanese products to a tee while undercutting on price and sometimes quality. Wasn't there a lot of reverse engineering going on as well? |

The technology inside iPods/iPhones/iPads is largely supplied by outside sources. Apple did write iOS but all the Samsung devices run Android, so it's pretty much a moot point (though I believe there was a ruling against some sort of Samsung shell software which was a bit too similar to iOS- but nothing that couldn't be remedied quickly and allow for units to be on the shelf soon after). Hell, Samsung itself provides part of the technology in almost every iProduct.
So it really does boil down to the design, whether it's empty cardboard or plastic/aluminum with circuits inside. |
