After two wonderful years in Cambodia I need cash! I am very interested in these after school program jobs. I was planning on heading over in January but from my research that seems a bad time.

What else do I need to know about getting one of these gigs. I have a degree, a CELTA and ten years teaching experience of which two were in Korea, one on EPIK and one at a hagwon.

I have seen the email addresses posted elsewhere on the forum and will be applying when I get all my paperwork but is there anything else I need to know. Do I have to be in country before applying etc? Are they all over Korea or just Seoul?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

You have good credentials, but 98% of these jobs go to people already in Korea and with a transferable E-2 visa. The best times are February-March and August.

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean that people leave their current job without finishing their contract and then transfer their E2?

No, they finish their contract and then they acquire a job at an after school program, and if you're in-country and you still have your E-2 visa, you can go to immigration and get the new employer at the after school program to sign off as the new visa sponsor.

Yeah, but in some cases it's worth it to go along with the scam if you get a sweet position in a good area and/or a lot of money for little work. I've known people who have done it before and were perfectly happy ripping off the government if it meant an E-2 visa and a swank job.

I mean, I wouldn't do it for 2.1 and no benefits, but for 2.7 in Sinchon with some housing allowance I'd open 10 bank accounts.

I have read about the double bank book scams. I am more interested in the low hours as I'm trying to finish off my masters, and the key money. If I return to Korea, I want comfortable housing.

Some offer key money.....some don't.

I'd be more concerned about not being here in person and being older....but I've seen a older teacher who was excellent take a sweet position from me.

I also think you'd have to hurry to korea with all docs if you wanted to make this season's intake.

Look for Choi WoonGi in Changwon. He runs the Vision English company in and around Changwon and Gimhae. He's pretty awesome - I've worked for him this past year (and if my grandmother wasn't dying I'd be resigning, but unfortunately I have to go home to Canada for a bit).
