Kind of a dummy as far as technology goes... looks like I'm about to get a a television that will, god willing, hook up to the picture on my laptop. All I need is a HDMI cable...??

Anyone know how much I can expect to pay for one? Are they widely available, or should I go to Yongsan? Is there anything else I need to know here??

HDMI out to HDMI in. 1 cable does it all. Use the remote to choose the correct HCMI in (some sets have up to 4 HDMI plugs).

Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.

Expect to pay 5-50k won depending on the length (1-10 meters).

They are available in the electronic sections of you favorite department store (more expensive) or at Yongsan (less expensive but more time to get one).

HDMI out to HDMI in. It is an all encompassing cable/connection.

You just have to set the outputs out to the HDMI port as well as or instead of your monitor speakers.

I don't own a mac, but your computer maybe using DisplayPort instead of HDMI and if so you'll need to get a converter.

yes, no mac has a native hdmi output. if yours was built in the last 3-4 years it most likely will have a mini display port output. you'd have to buy a mini display port to hdmi cable at a store or online.
there is also a good chance that it won't transfer audio. there are many reported problems of mini display port to hdmi cables not doing that so well, so you might want external speakers.

Are these computers compatible with ANYTHING??

why would you just forget it? getting a mini display port to hdmi cable is no harder than getting an hdmi cable.

Just don't get suckered into thinking you need anything more than a cheap one. If it works, it works. There is no difference in signal quality. It either works or it doesn't with a digital signal like that.

The only time people run into trouble is when they're dealing with distances over 30 meters or so. That's about the only situation where a quality cable can be helpful.

I just am cursed technology-wise. Nothing ever works, and I know this would drive me crazy and probably wouldn't end up working anyway. I'm reading too much on the internet about how Macbooks HDMI is screwed up, the audio doesn't work half the time, you need additional parts, etc. I just know how this would work out for me.

That and I was going to buy a TV from someone tonight who is leaving tomorrow, but I made plans with what I thought was a really sincere, selfless, straightforward girl. So what does she do? Ignore me all day, doesn't even take care to cancel our plans, then hangs up and call.

Ah, girls and technology... definitely placing a 1/2 ranking as far as love/hate relationships go for me.

Take pictures of the sides of your mac (where the plugs are) and we can assist you. I've never used a mac but I assume you either need a HDMI or VGA cable.

If your mac has a HDMI port http://image.shutterstock.com/display_pic_with_logo/67135/67135,1273116034,1/stock-photo-a-macro-of-a-hdmi-port-52460485.jpg then just get a HDMI cable.

If you can't find this, then look for this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/92/SVGA_port.jpg/300px-SVGA_port.jpg If you can find that, get a VGA cable.

this information is incorrect. please follow the advice i gave above.

macbooks do not have vga or hdmi outputs.

just buy the minidisplay port to hdmi cable that i linked above and rejoice.
