Hey guys,
I'll be moving to Daegu in December. I've got a few questions that I'd like to ask, if that's ok?
1. How close are the nearby mountains? and how easy are they to get to? I'm a keen hiker and want to get out and about once I'm there. Also, any hiking clubs out there?
2. Any big supermarkets there? I'm looking for good foreign imports (cheese, spices etc)
3. Are there some good places to kick a ball around, play bit of football/soccer? I'm a Brit and as such I need my 'footy fix'! |
daegu is surrounded by mountains... i have one in my backyard that everyone hikes (i live in beommul dong)... the two most famous are mt.apsan & mt.palgongsan...
there's a costco, emart and homeplus... costco has the most foreign food, though homeplus has some nice groceries... also, any of the major dept. stores have decent grocery stores in their basements... there are also "black market" shops downtown, but the stuff is expensive and it's not really things that you'd think they'd have (and you can find a lot of korean equivalents)... there are quite a few "western" fast food places too...
don't know about soccer, but i'm pretty sure there are some foreigners who get together... |

1. Mountains enclose the city.
2. Of course you can get imports.
3. Of course. There is also an organized team if you are fit to try. |

I am deciding between Busan and Daegu. Daegu seems great but for a few things. Can anyone speak to a few issues that have popped up in this thread:
Xenophobia - I have heard that people glare and stare at you more in Busan/Seoul, but a few people said it can be bad in Daegu. Can anyone speak to this?
Pollution - My first thought of Daegu is that is would be polluted. I live in Seattle, the air is great. No pollution at all, but Daegu is A. surrounded by mountains and B. has a lot of textile facilities. It seems like it would be a little polluted. Can anyone speak to this? |

Hey, Ktulu, I'm a fellow Seattleite who will is looking at Busan and Daegu as top choices also. Gotta get out of town before they start building that Viaduct tunnel, right? I can't answer your questions (having not been over there yet), but just thought I'd say hi. I'm looking to head over in November - good luck and maybe I'll meet ya at some point! |
