I have the small, cheaper, Ranee (sp?) model listed above. Got it on Gmarket. For two people in a small space, it's just fine. Anything larger is overkill, IMHO, if you have one of those "officetel"-style front-loading washers. It was about 350,000 as I recall. Best. Purchase. Ever.

second hand stores like the one near haebongchon sell them, we got a small gas dryer there for like 200,000 won, gas company came out a couple of days later and installed it for 40,000

best purchase we have made in korea especially for jeans, sheets and towels, it really doesnt add much to our gas bill, maybe 10-15,000 won/month

It seems like the washer/dryer combos would be more popular than they are when people have to live in such small spaces. The drying rack seems to take up half of my apartment this year.

I actually have more difficulty drying clothes in the humid days of summer. They dry very fast indoors in drying racks in the winter. Adds a little moisture to the dry air, too.

Can anyone explain why?

Because electricity is more expensive in Korea and the people are generally poorer than in America / Canada. That is also why you can't run air conditioning in your classroom when its 35 degrees.

Costco has a full-size Whirlpool gas dryer for around a million won. I'm considering getting it. Expensive, yes, but it looks like it's large enough to dry a king-sized comforter.

Dryers are the biggest waste of electricty ever. It takes a day or two to dry clothes on a clothing rack. Jeeze people. I'm just about the laziest guy alive and don't think twice about hanging my clothes on a rack. Save some of those damn natuaral resources that are dwindling so quickly!

Agreed. Even in the winter it only takes a couple of days to dry and dryers shortens the life span of clothes. I'm just baffled at why some people want a dryer.
