If I come to Korea on a 90-day student visa (i think its a D3? Not sure) is it possible to extend it or change it to a tourist visa without having to leave the country??

Tried to find a link to definitive information but couldn't find a site.

No. You must leave the country to change a student visa to a tourist visa.

yup, you have to get out of the country. come here, sign a contract, your school will usually fly you to osaka on a "visa run" . it's a one-day deal. an E-2 visa's good for another 90 days, then you've gotta register at the immigration office where you'll get an Alien Registration Card (ARC). then you're good for a year.
good luck

No no, I don't want an e2 visa. I'm not working at a school. Just want to spend 4 months in Korea instead of 3.

This would all be on my own coin so if I have to leave the country then I won't come back to Korea..just move on somewhere else.

Just wondering if its possible to extend a student visa so i can be a touristy type for another month. I have to go to Japan in late September but my tourist visa would expire in late August in Korea.

So looks like a trip to some other Asian country or back home to the UK is in the offing.

I think you can extend a student visa if you have a letter from your university/school and you don't have to leave the country.

Ask your school (i imagine you are going to one with a student visa) for more info.

Don't think that would work either since I technically wouldn't be a student anymore.

I want to come on a student visa, do my studies, then transfer to a tourist visa to just hang out for a month. Sounds like that might not be possible.

Damn Korean immigration paperwork!!
