Try beat them with a stick strategy, it's amazing. Not only do you win the students respect but the teachers as well, you only have to do it once and boom you are the man. One disadvantage is you could get fired, but hey life is full of choices.

So you are recommending that teachers should surreptitiously break the law?

All that will achieve is to endanger your position.

You were lucky not to suffer repercussions.

No. What is needed is for the government to be pressured into changing the law to allow reasonable and effective methods of corporal punishment.

It started as a joke, but I stared down a few of my students and it really works. It is a very strong signal of aggression so try starting it as a "fun" exercise, but if you win against the heavies.... Well, I got respect. It surprised me too! I got it from another teacher who stared down THE school psycho of about 6 ft (she's under 5ft) and after that he carried her books. I'm pretty sure it's legal globally!

All I did is what copy the other teachers, got the kid to turn his hands up, and whack, class was silent and well behaved.

corporal punishment is not against the law anywhere except for Seoul.

The only repercussions would be from the parents, but that could have got me fired.

Agree with what you say about an effective method of corporal punishment, I had no idea what I was doing and I didn't want to break the kids hand.
