Since I am the only single male foreign guy in an all-girls high school of 1000, I seem to draw a lot of attention from certain girls. Don't take this as bragging, because I think it could happen to just about anyone in this situation (many young, unexperienced girls -- no boys around).
There is, however, one 17 year-old that is really going all-out. Sometimes she brings me food. While in class, I would catch her staring at me directly with a really obsessed, weird starry-eyed look. Before I knew it was her, she was yelling, "I LOVE YOU" as I left the classroom -- making all of the other students burst out in laughter. It's gotten worse. Now she tells me directly to my face -- calling me over in class sometimes simply to say, "Teacher -- I love you." And now, if our eyes meet during class, she starts mouthing the words, "I love you".
This week, she asked me if I would meet her at the Library over the weekend to "study".
Her friend approached me and cautioned me once, "Don't break her heart!"
I told my female friend (almost girlfriend) about it, and she said, "Just tell her to wait until she graduates -- then go get her." hhahahaha.
Why couldn't I attract this WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL!??!? |

This is a disturbing post. It starts out as if you are genuinely concerned about inappropriate attention/affection from one of your students, and are asking for help with how to appropriately address the problem.
It then degenerates into you laughing over the possibility of waiting until she graduates and is then supposedly an "acceptable" pursuit.
Your last comment is really the icing on the cake.
Perhaps I am missing the point. Could you clarify what your motive was in posting this? |

Corporal,
If i may say so...yeah, you are missing the point.
Gollum never mentioned laughing about this at all. It was his female friend who laughed it off.
As someone who has expereinced this type of uncomfortable situation, i think i can sense he may be concerned about what he should do. Sometimes these situations can turn chaotic in no time.
Also, his last comment may be icing on tha cake to you, but he is just saying that he would have rather had all this attention in high school, not now.
Sorry, i just saw your post and i felt i had to say something. Gollum, correct me if I'm wrong. |

| Perhaps it is time to tell your students that you have a girlfriend. |

FUBAR, I beat you to that one. I have already mentioned that I have a girlfriend (although technically, I don't consider her that yet). I got a frown from the girl for a short while, but she still continues.
And Corporal... the eye is right. You're misinterpreting and missing the point.
And the implication that I might not care about this girl's feelings really saddens me. I care very much about my students. |

Just tell her that you can't meet her then. Tell her. I am teacher, you are student.
It might hurt her feelings a touch, but you don't want this girl following you around all the time. |

Man I wonder what would happen if I wasn't married.
I just COULDNT imagine this kinda thing happening with my female students.
Whenever I say I am handsome they all laugh, not whisper I love you. |

Gollum wrote "hahhahaha".
If that is shortform for some other expression of emotion that I'm not aware of, then correct me again.
And, I'm not saying he isn't concerned about or doesn't care about his students. I just said the way in which he phrased the post rang a very odd tone. I'm glad he clarified and established that he is not a shallow asshole looking to take advantage of his female students. |

Escept that in Korea, it's considered a valid reason to fire someone. |

I guess I did. Can you tell me where I went wrong? Was it when I assumed that there WAS a point in the first place? |

Ryan's Interpretation:
He tells female friend asking for help... female friend makes joke, they laugh at the absurdity of the joke... because simply, that situation wouldn't be an option for him. Then, he further shows the joke by pointing out that now, this situation sucks, but in high school, it would have rocked.
Corp, ease up... you're starting to come off as one of those Tokki/Gord type posters that thinks they are god's gift to Dave's ESL. |

Maybe. But were I forced to choose, I'd rather come across as a tokki/Gord-type poster than a rylees/kiwiboy type poster. |

Yeah, nothing like hearing Tokki rant about someone insulting him for two pages, or to have Gord insist he's correct and a superachiever for three pages. |
