Yeah, yeah, they tell you "we are the best in the world" and they're so stupid they actually believe it, don't they?!? Annoying, isn't it? Someone's got to tell them, I guess. Similarly, I drive round southern Japan with a hideous sticker on my rear window proclaiming "The World's GREATEST team - Birmingham City". Yes, stupid, but, me, I know my place, so no need to "pour water on my stupidity" Embarassed Crying or Very sad I'm knowledgable about football, y'see, so I don't deserve it.

Anyway, good that you "think it is infair to equate informing people with "putting them in their place" "because I have to inform you that those achievements of Derby in 72 and 75 were NOT both under Clough; the first was, the second was under Dave Mackay, Clough having left early in the previous season Smile

I correct people who make inaccurate comments, and you slam me for it. So, are you suggesting that Korea is the best team in the world? I see nothing wrong with informing some Koreans that they are not the best team in the world. The Birmingham City sticker you refered to is a blend of hyperbole and pride, it is not intended to be serious. The analogy isn't appropriate when contrasted with Koreans who make references about football that are inaccurate, provocative and firmly believed. Most of the time these arguements have been thrown in with the "Koreans are racially superior" type arguements. Unless you seriously think that Birmingham City are the best team in the world, I suggest that you withdraw the analogy. You were correct in pointing out that Mackay led us to one of those titles. I confused the dates of the successes.

Yes, and it's very important that they be corrected, isn't it?! Why can't these idiots realise you're doing them a favour? Confused

Ok, seriously, though, mate, you're clearly not happy I took the piss and I am sorry if you thought what I wrote last time rather below the belt. But if you honestly can't re-read what you wrote in the post to which I was referring and see how much you invited it, then it would seem to me, at least, that you perhaps need to lighten up a bit and take a few things in life a bit less seriously.

You "see nothing wrong" in putting Koreans in their place - to me that's what it is, call it "correcting them", "pouring cold water on their stupidity" or whatever if that makes you feel better about it. Fair enough, that's your opinion, mate. Not sure it's going do wonders for your popularity but that might be something that doesn't bother you.

And now you choose to attack me for having an opinion which I wanted to share with fellow Westerners on an esl website. Thanks.

I really think you have the problem here. I have put forward my opinion in a polite, and serious manner, and you are still attacking me for it. My popularity is certainly not suffering. Nice of you to throw that in there for good measure though. Thanks.

Mate, watch your blood-pressure, will you?! No, I've never attacked you at all for "for having an opinion which [you] wanted to share with fellow Westerners on an esl website". You're being just a tad oversensitive there. Just a personal viewpoint, but you don't strike me as being the most difficult person to wind up. Didn't you understand my "Fair enough, that's your opinion, mate"? Is the "problem" you think I have my seeing things differently to you?

You post a lot on here - over 700 times says your profile - and if that makes you as happy as, er, correcting stupid Koreans, then keep at it. I'm all for people doing what they enjoy. I don't expect there's much chance of you taking my advice, but I do reckon it might be an idea for you to have a lie-down sometime. Wink Cheers.

Considering I have been a member for nearly a year, 700 posts isn't regarded as a high post count. I don't need to "have a lie down." I am not sure how you come to the conclusion that I am easy to "wind up". I have not thrown any insults around, and I have been polite. However, if we want to refer to the chacteristics of someone who is easy to wind up, I think you are mirroring that stereotype much more than myself.

This being said though, the rankings are rather ludicrous and certainly not indicative that one team should necessarily be able to beat another. I certainly wouldn't call Australia a powerhouse but its current ranking of 85th is ridiculous.

I agree. They are worthy of a higher ranking. They came to England and beat one of our experimental line-ups last year! Interestingly, the FIFA rankings are ignored in the UK. I have never heard them refered to as often since I came to Korea. They can't be given as much credence as the ATP tennis rankings for example, but Koreans often say in arguements about football, "we are ranked blah blah!". As I said earlier, Korea wouldn't win many matches played on a home and away basis.
I just happened by the ELO rankings site and noticed that Australia is ranked 12th there and the ROK 38th.

Ah! I happen to think that ranking is too high for the Aussies! Maybe something in the 30s would be more appropriate! Still, the Korean ranking seems about right.

Well, it's been confirmed now that Coehlo has resigned from the national team.

Now let's see which numpty the KFA line up to replace him with...

I'm hoping a Korean takes his place, that way there is no one else to blame.

Here's an interesting bit about the national coaching situation here and how many may want to think twice before taking the job.

How much would a week in Maldives cost for two people, cheaply?

Humberto Coelho stepped down as South Korea coach because of the unrealistic expectations heaped on the team since their amazing run to the 2002 World Cup semi-finals under Dutchman Guus Hiddink.

It's not too unrealistic to expect them to beat the Maldives and avoid defeat against Oman and Vietnam.

They should be able to record much better results than Coehlo produced, and the current "prince sickness" (muhahaha) prevalent throughout the national squad shows that he's not been able to stamp any authority on them.

Right, I've dusted down the crystal ball and placed it on my desk. I'm giving it a rub, here goes.....

"I see a canny Yugoslavian tactical genius of a coach with an amazing track record of turning around non-achieving national teams (and minnows) in world soccer and his name is.....I can see a name through the foggy haze....wait....ah! Yes! Bora Milatinovic!"

The Korean Football Federation could do a lot worse than give that guy a call IMHO.
