If not, can anyone suggest some fun sight seeing places in Seoul that are open on Sunday?

(as for the Gyeongkokgung Palace being open on sunday thing, I tried searching google but couldn't find out for sure)

Yes. It is only closed on Tuesdays.

It's a great web site for tourists in Seoul.

One tip about seeing the palaces- plan to also see something else that is in the vicinity because all of the palaces have other tourist attractions close to them, along with many restaurants. Also, they will all be open during Chuseok.
